LR Group sends electricity meters to Honduras

Israeli company to begin supplying meters in May. Deal part of attempt by Central American country's electricity corporation to thwart energy theft

Israel-based LR Group will provide smart electricity meters to the Honduras electricity corporation – Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica (ENEE) in a $300 million deal, Bloomberg has reported.

According to the report, Israel will begin supplying the meters by May. The deal is part of the ENEE's attempt to thwart the widespread electricity theft in the country, which causes the utility corporation to lose some 30% in revenue each year.

LR Group CEO Gabi Nahum said that the project got the green light from the Electric Corporation and is pending legal approval expected within two weeks. The meters will allow the company to cut electricity supply to non-paying users.

"Our meters will change the way the Honduras electricity system operates and will enable ENEE to increase revenues," said Nahum.

The deal has been in the pipeline for the past two years and includes a new billing system and guidance.
