TJFF announces films for 20th anniversary festival
Toronto Jewish Film Festival to feature 96 films from over 15 countries
The Toronto Jewish Film Festival is celebrating 20 years with a film program that features a whopping 96 movies from more than 15 countries. The festival runs from May 3 to May 13 at various theatres in Toronto.
The opening night film, "A Bottle in the Gaza Sea," will be presented at the Cineplex Odeon Varsity on May 3.
The festival will close with "A.K.A. Doc Pomus," co-directed by Will Hechter.
The documentary tells the story of the singer-songwriter behind classics like "Save the Last Dance For Me" and "The Magic Moment."
Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include a film from the Oscar-winning director of "The Artist," Michel Hazanavicius. TJFF will also be presenting a number of premieres, including the Toronto debut of the Israeli film "This Is Sodom."
Other premieres include the French comedy "Let my People Grow" and Dorfman, which co-stars Elliot Gould and The Big Bang Theory's Sara Rue.
This year's sidebar series is called "The Sound of Movies: Masters of the Film Score." Curated by Ellie Skrow, the series puts a spotlight on Jewish composers and their work in films. The sidebar series will feature guests like Oscar-winning composer David Shire.
