Israeli pop song leads Turkish TV's Olympics promo

One of Ankara's leading TV stations chooses 1970s Israeli hit as the score for its Olympics promo

The diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey may still be rocky, but that has not stopped one of Ankara's major TV stations from showing solidarity of sorts – via its musical choices.

The station has chosen a 1970s Israeli pop song – "Bim Bam Bom" as the score for its London Games promo.

The song was written by Yoram Taharlev and composed by Moshe Vilensky for then-pop power duo Ilan and Ilanit.

In 1975, Turkish pop singer Yasemin Kumral released a cover of the song, which has since been used in various Turkish commercials.

Yoram Taharlev told Yedioth Ahronoth Thursday that "It's thrilling to learn that this song, which is about to turn 50, has won the Turks' hearts."
