Moreover, the importance of foreplay increases with age: The poll revealed that while only 44% of 18-24 year olds declared they think foreplay is important, the percentage increased to 51% in the 25-34 age group and to 61%in the over 35s group.
Some 500 people were sampled in the Zeta Tools survey which was commissioned by Perrigo, the local distributer of R3 condoms.
In spite of the relative importance ascribed to foreplay, the survey also revealed that Israel is still a relatively conservative country: Only 20% of Israelis use sex toys with the majority (29%) being between the ages of 25-34. The numbers go down among younger Israelis (only 15%).
And which sex toy do Israelis favor? 60% of women who use sex toys said they preferred vibrators and surprisingly, 45% of men prefer them too bringing the total to 52% of users.
Some 10% of sex toy users experimented with handcuffs while 20% used gels and lubricants. Some 32% of women who do not have a steady partner answered that they use lubricants compared with 12% of women who do have steady partners.
The survey also revealed that 75% of those who use sex toys are positive that they improved their sex lives. In the south where less importance was attached to foreplay, those polled actually believe in the positive influence of sex toys with 38% of them noting that the toys were a positive influence compared with only 14% of Jerusalemites.
