Media personality Doron Nesher suffers massive stroke
Veteran Army Radio anchor, actor said to be in critical condition
Veteran Israeli media personality Doron Nesher is said to be in critical condition Sunday, after suffering a massive stroke on Saturday night.
Nesher is hospitalized in the ICU at the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva.
Nili, Nesher's wife, said that Magen David Adom emergency services refused at first to evacuate her husband to a hospital. MDA insists that Nesher himself refused medical attention.
"I've never felt so helpless in my life," she told Channel 10 News. "I have three paramedics in my house, refusing to take my husband – who is clearly having a stroke – to the hospital. It's outrageous."
An MDA statement to Ynet said: "MDA EMTs arrived at the Nesher home to find the patient exhibiting signs of a stroke. The paramedics sought to rush the patient to the hospital, but he was adamantly against it.
"The team remained at the family home for over two hours, administrating care and trying to convince Mr. Nesher to go to the hospital, but he kept refusing. It is forbidden by law to take patients to the hospital if they adamantly refuse evacuation," the statement stressed.
"The EMTs consulted with the doctor on call at the MDA center and after two hours, and barring any other choice, concluded that he could not be taken to the hospital.
"An MDA inquiry has been launched and will review the possibility of initiating a change in legislation that will allow paramedics to forcibly evacuate a patient to a medical center."
Nesher was eventually rushed to the Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba by his family.
The ICU attending at Meir ruled that Nesher was in need of an emergency catheterization and rushed him to the Rabin Medical Center.
The Rabin Medical Center issued the following statement: "Doron Nesher suffered a massive stroke and is in critical condition."
The Health Ministry has launched an inquiry into the case, as well.
