Device explodes near military vehicle; no injuries

Explosive device detonates near Gaza border fence during routine IDF activities. No injuries reported

An explosive device detonated on Tuesday morning near a military vehicle driving along the border fence with the Gaza Strip.

No injuries were reported in the blast though a military bulldozer was damaged.

The blast occurred during routine IDF engineering unit activities near the fence. The IDF forces arrived at the scene to unearth demolition charges that intelligence reports claimed were hidden in the area.

During their operations, a device exploded after which the unit continued in its activities.

On Sunday, a rocket was fired from Gaza toward the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council as annual ceremonies were held nationwide to remember the 6 million Jews murdered by German Nazis and their collaborators.

The rocket exploded in an open area and caused no injury or damage. On Monday the Color Red siren sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council, but no rocket launchings were identified.

In response to the rocket attack, the army closed the Kerem Shalom goods crossing into the Gaza Strip on Monday.

The Erez crossing would be open for humanitarian cases only, the IDF said.

Also Monday, the Air Force deployed two Iron Dome missile defense batteries in south Israel. One
battery was placed in the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, while the other was deployed near Ashkelon. An additional battery was deployed last week in Eilat, Israel's southernmost city.
