Israel's rally queens to travel from Germany to Jordan

Six women to represent Israel at Allgaeu-Orient-Rallye road trip driving 20-year-old cars.

Six women will represent Israel for the first time at the Allgaeu-Orient-Rallye road trip, which will be launched in Germany, arrive in Israel two weeks later and end in Jordan.

The race's uniqueness is in its large number of participants: A total of 333 cars and about 700 participants from all over the world.

In addition, the rally's rules seem more like an adventure than an auto race: Participants will travel thousands of kilometers in unique landscapes, side roads and dirt tracks, in a car which is either more than 20 years old or not worth more than 1,111 euros (about $1,540). The drivers will spend the night outdoors and their daily budget cannot exceed 11 euros per person. They will also have to deal with different tasks.

The navigation is according to maps and a compass, without using any technology like GPS devices. The drivers will embark on the journey knowing that there is no aid vehicle or rescue team a phone call or several kilometers away.

The road trip begins this Saturday in Germany, crosses the Balkan countries and stops in Turkey. The rally will stop in Israel for four days. The Cross Country company has built an attractive route for the rally, which will connect the participants to the Israeli experience alongside social involvement and helping the community.

The race will be held in Israel thanks to the help of the Tourism Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Israeli Embassy in Germany and the Tiran shipping company.

Israel will be represented by six women, most of whom are already grandmothers: Zehava Vider from Moshav Bekaot, who lost her husband and daughter in the terror attack at Netanya's Park Hotel; Ziva Cooper from Moshav Argaman; Mali Klain from Bekaot; Aviva Shachar from Moshav Tomer; Nina Taube (Balas) from Moshav Srigim; and Orly Weintraub-Louk from Srigim.
