BMW on fire

A man was killed Wednesday afternoon when a BMW SUV exploded in Netanya. Emergency crews arrived on the scene to discover the man trapped in the flames. He was removed from the vehicle without any signs of life.
Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich, who lives in a nearby community, arrived at the scene of the explosion.
According to reports, another person in the vehicle – who was the likely target of the alleged assassination attempt – successfully escaped. Police launched an investigation into the incident.

Police believe, based on preliminary investigation, that the vehicle belonged to a senior member in the Netanya criminal world but the victim of the explosion was likely a lieutenant.
Sources in the city warned that "if it is discovered there was an assassination attempt on the (senior criminal figure), it will lead to an escalation."
The explosion occurred when the vehicle was at an intersection. The vehicle lit on fire and was damaged on all sides.
