Israel's tourism industry took a major hit
following Operation Protective Edge, and although the Gaza conflict ended about two months ago, tourists are not rushing back to Israel.
That has not stopped Tel Aviv's hotels from raising their rates last month and becoming significantly more expensive than most hotels in European countries.

Under new European system, hotels will be ranked on infrastructure, service, food and drink; Tourism Ministry urges hotels to join system.
Figures released last week by the STR Global research institute, which tracks hotels' activity around the world, show that the average price of a hotel room in Tel Aviv in September was €197.67 (about $250) per night – a 20.2% increase from September 2013.
The data further show that the price of an overnight stay at Tel Aviv hotel is almost double the price in Madrid – €107. Hotel rates in the Spanish capital, by the way, soared by nearly 30% too.
In addition, the price of a hotel room in Tel Aviv is significantly more expensive than most cities and countries in Europe, where the average is €116 per night. For example, the average price of a hotel room in Germany in September was €114, the average price in Italy was €144, in Spain it was €98, and in Britain – €115.
It should be noted, however, that the Tel Aviv hotel rates in September include the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashana, which always registers record prices. Nonetheless, last year all the High Holidays took place during September, pointing to a considerable rise in hotel prices in Tel Aviv.
In addition, because most hotels in Tel Aviv are of a high standard, the average room rate is higher compared to cities and countries which offer many low-priced hotels.
