Israeli killed in Myanmar crash

Tel Aviv resident was in Southeast Asian nation to visit son with his wife; their minibus hit a truck, killing the 62-year-old Israeli and injuring his wife and son.

A 62-year-old Israeli from Tel Aviv was killed on Sunday in an accident near the city of Bagan, some 500 kilometers north of Myanmar's largest city, Yangon. His wife and son were lightly wounded in the crash.

The accident occurred near 7 pm local time. The family was traveling in a minibus when it crashed into a truck; from the force of the impact, the minibus was diverted, coming to a stop after hitting a house.

The man died at the scene and his wife and son were evacuated to a hospital in a nearby town. The foreign ministry confirmed the report and said the embassy was working to transfer the body for burial in Israel.

The Israeli embassy in Myanmar has been in touch with the woman and son who were injured. The son had been travelling in the country, where his parents joined him recently for a trip.

Last week, 22-year-old Tal Nahum was killed in a car crash in Mexico. Three other Israelis were injured in the accident. The four were driving a rental vehicle on their way to a resort town on the Yucatan peninsula. Their vehicle collided with a bus, though the cause of the collision remains unclear.
