Israeli dies while on Peru trip
Aviv Bromberg, 24, was recently discharged as a captain in the IAF and decided to travel to Peru, where he tragically lost his life.
Friends and relatives of Aviv Bromberg, 24, gathered at the family home in Kfar Saba in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after word spread of Aviv's sudden death on a trip in Peru.
Aviv was traveling in the South American country with ten other Israelis, when he began feeling ill on the eighth day of the Waywash trek, and later lost consciousness. Medics who arrived at the scene attempted to resuscitate him, but were eventually forced to declare his death.
"He has been travelling in South America since February," his relatives said. "He was supposed to return to Israel in September in order to start his Information Systems Engineering degree at Ben Gurion University.
"He was on his post-army trip; he was discharged in November of last year, after serving as a captain in the IAF's aerial controller unit," the family added.
Aviv's body was takento a nearby town before continuing to the capital Lima, from which the body will be flown to Israel for burial in his home town. The Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Lima are taking care of the arrangements to fly the body back. Aviv's family wanted to thank "his Israeli friends who weere with Aviv in his final hours, took care of him, and stayed with him until the embassy representative arrived."
Smadar Tzeller, Aviv's former principal at the Ort Shapira high school in Kfar Saba, said: "He was an amazing kid, he had great personal qualities. He was full of values, and an outstanding student, who was chosen to receive the Ort chairman's outstanding distinction. Aviv was filled with internal and external beauty. He was a huge source of pride for our school."
Tzeller continued to say that: "The hearts of the staff are all with the family, both due to Aviv being a student at the school, and the fact that his mother is one of the more senior teachers at the school. Aviv always volunteered to help both his friends and the school, he grew up in a very moral house which placed a special importance on giving respect."
