Yom Kippur is expected to bring hot and dry weather to Israel, but forecasters predict that long-awaited rain will occur early in the week.
The week is forecast to begin with heat, which will be broken by rain on Monday, with hotter than normal temperatures expected to return on Tuesday – posing a serious challenge to all those fasting, particularly in eastern Israel, where intense heat is predicted.
Shlomo Oberman, a meteorologist with "Meteo-tech," explained that the changes in the weather are typical for this time of year.
According to Meteo-tech's forecast, a shallow depression over the eastern Mediterranean is causing the hotter than usual weather felt throughout Israel. Light rain is expected during the second half of the Sunday night.
During the night between Sunday and Monday, Oberman says, a depression containing cold air will enter the area, causing a dramatic change in the weather. "As a result of its arrival, there will be a drop in temperatures. Monday morning will see the arrival of scattered thunderstorms."
What about Yom Kippur?
"It looks like Yom Kippur will be hot and dry," Oberman says. "Tuesday will be bright, and temperatures will rise throughout the day. Temperatures will be hotter than normal for this time of year. Wednesday will see another rise in temperatures."
