Israel applies to host Pre-Olympic basketball
Are some of the world's biggest basketball tournamens headed to Israel? Basketball association applies for Pre-Olympics, Eurobasket.
The Israel Basketball Association (IBA) announced Monday that it had applied to host the Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament next year as well as one of the early stages of Eurobasket 2017.
Eighteen champion teams from around the world will participate in the Pre-Olympic competition in three different countries and the host nations will automatically get to compete.
Israel lost the chance to compete in the Pre-Olympics when the team lost to France and Italy in the Eurobasket tournament recently. Besides France and Italy, Serbia, Greece and the Czech Republic will continue on to the Pre-Olympic Basketball Tournament.
The Basketball Associated also said they would apply to host one of the brackets of the European basketball championship in 2017. The final decision on where the tournament will be held is due in December.
