Israel’s fifth international hot air balloon festival was held Wednesday in Ma’ayan Harod. One of its main attractions was the first Israeli skydiving jump directly out of a hot air balloon, in front of thousands of spectators.
The hot air balloon festival, produced by the Sky Trek company, carried on, with dozens of hot air balloons filling the sky with their different shapes. Half were locals, half gathered from around the world. The festival was held in the picturesque area of Mount Gilboa.
Six professional skydivers flew up at dawn inside a hot air balloon nicknamed Romeo, to a height of 6,500 feet (about 2 kilometers), equipped with GoPro cameras. Then they jumped down, in front of everyone.

Another of the festival’s attractions was Papa – the largest hot air balloon in the Middle East, which spans 35 meters and has a carrying capacity of 1,000 kilograms – or 16 passengers + a pilot, double that of the average hot air balloon in Israel.
