Scottish singer Donovan to perform in Israel

One of the first British pop musicians to adopt flower power in the 1960s will play one concert at Gesher Theater in Jaffa on January 15.

Scottish singer, songwriter and guitarist Donovan will arrive in Israel for one concert this winter, which will be held on January 15 at Gesher Theater in Jaffa. Ticket prices will range from NIS 300 to NIS 600 (about $77-153), depending on the seat's location.

This will be the musician's second visit to Israel. He first performed in the country in 1979.

Born Donovan Philips Leitch, he is considered one of the most popular singer-songwriters in British music. His most successful songs were his early UK hits "Catch the Wind" and "Colours" in 1965, and he was one of the first British pop musicians to adopt flower power in the 1960s.

Although he was not as successful as other musicians in his genre like Bob Dylan, Donovan influenced quite a few iconic bands and is still inspiring tributes from many musicians.

Indie artists such as The Flaming Lips and Sharon Van Etten joined forces recently in a tribute album dedicated to Donovan's classic tracks. Three of his songs have been played on "The Simpsons" and he also appeared as himself on American adult animated science fiction sitcom "Futurama."

Donovan is bring brought to Israel by ProgStage Productions, which was responsible for the arrival of artists such as Rick Wakeman and Renaissance.
