Three years ago, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rode a bicycle belonging to Tel Aviv bike rental scheme Tel-O-Fun on a tour of the city. Now, that same bike is said to be on sale at the popular internet site webiz.com. The bike's listed price is $200,000, and the advertiser claims Netanyahu's DNA is still present on it.
The ad was published on Tuesday, and is open for bidding until the start of February. The person who published it presented himself as a Tel Aviv municipality worker. He claims he saw the PM finish his ride, and asked the security guard to take the bicycle, to which the guard agreed. He says he kept the bike in his possession for three years, waiting for the moment he could sell it.
Tel-O-Fun did not favor the idea, saying: "The bicycle is the exclusive property of the Tel-O-Fun project and the Tel Aviv municipality. The sale of our bike on an internet site is a felony, just like selling stolen goods. This is theft, plain and simple. Whoever tries to buy this bike and bid for it is putting their money in a precarious position."
The Tel Aviv Municipality intends to press charges with the police, stating: "The subject is not familiar, and in any case we do not know which bicycle was ridden by the Prime Minister. The advert on the sales website will be examined and if its details are correct, efforts will be made to locate the bicycle and return in to the municipality."
