The chopper's thermal camera aids in the detection of persons in darkness. In the recording provided by the police of this particular thermal camera, the pilot can be heard identifying three persons. This information was relayed to the command post, and the riders received medical attention before being evacuated.
A police official said, "We ask the public wishing to travel the country to do so intelligently, to bring appropriate clothing and sufficient water, to check the weather forecast, and to prepare a route appropriate for the physical ability of all those included in the trip."
