As new Public Broadcasting Company Law passes, opposing ministers erupt in fight

The government approved the details soon-to-be erected Public Broadcasting Company, in a move that caused several ministers to voice  their vehement criticism.

The law, which will prevent the political echelon from deciding key factors in the way the company will be managed, was opposed by Culture Minister Miri Regev (Likud), who declared that preventing the communications minister from intervening with the PBC's hiring practices would create a "members only" club. Minister of Information and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan (Likud), however, voiced his support of the Public Broadcasting Company Law by saying that changing it now would make it harder to convince professionals from the media to sign on to the company, when its very existence is being called into question.

The conflict surrounding the PBC was also heightened due to a bill submitted by Coalition Chairperson David Bitan (Likud), which aims to completely prevent the PBC from being erected.
