Health is the name of the game for MAYA Food Industries

MAYA Food Industries launches a new line of products designed to make health food more accessible to the public at a reasonable price.

The Israeli food manufacturer MAYA Food Industries has launched a new line of whole foods designed to assist in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet.

MAYA aims to make these products more readily available to the public, products that until recently were only available in a number of specialty markets and health food stores.

The new line includes seven different products: Four types of Quinoa (black, red, white, and a mix); Chia seeds, Millet, Oat bran, Flaxseed, Quick cooking oatmeal, Quaker, and Wheat bran.

Over the last few years, there has been an increasing awareness of a healthier, more active lifestyle. People are more concerned with their quality of life and thus physical activity as well as proper nutrition have become inseparable from their busy day-to-day lives.

A few years ago, Quinoa was all the rage. It seemed to be the hottest trend. But like any fashion trend, it ebbs and flows. And though it may appear to have dwindled, it actually transformed into less of a trend, and more of a constant.

People are still interested in 'healthy' products, though the outward buzz may have lessened. MAYA aims at helping to implement these products in the public's daily meals.

MAYA makes it possible for every consumer—be it weight watchers, gluten sensitive, vegans, diabetics, or others—to enjoy the variety of their products and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Tal Sagi, MAYA's VP of sales, explained that "the company believes the Israeli consumer should be given quality products at a fair price. We operate on several levels in which we try to improve our products and make them healthier," which would then entail a better product for the consumer.

Recently, Ynetnews had the pleasure of sampling a few of MAYA's products as they were incorporated in a number of delicious breakfast dishes courtesy of Chef Meir Adoni's Blue Sky Restaurant at the Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv.

The restaurant is located on the top floor of the hotel, providing guests with a breathtaking view of the beach. The morning was beautiful and sunny, and the natural light filtering through the windows surrounding the restaurant imbued the setting with just the right amount of ambiance.

The meal started with several types of salads, followed by various entrees, culminating in artistically ornamented deserts. The food was truly as delightful as it looked.

And even though most of us aren’t quite as suave in the kitchen, each of the products—available in supermarkets near you—provides a recipe suggestion on its back.

If you are willing to make that bit of extra effort—as the raw products require some advance preparation—give these items a try.

MAYA was founded under the name MAYA Spice of Life Jerusalem Ltd. in 1982 by three childhood friends: Moshe Weisman, Israel Genzel and Udi Wertheimer. They decided to call the company MAYA, an acronym that stands for their Hebrew names.

Eventually, two other childhood friends, (Shmuel and Ami) also joined the company as partners. In 1998, MAYA moved to the industrial zone of Mishor Adumim, and then in 2010, the company changed its official name to MAYA Food Industries Ltd., thereby reflecting the wide variety of its products.
