Entry of a central BDS activist from Chile was prevented

In a step keeping up with the policy established by Minister of Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan a few months back, Anwar Makhlouf, head of the Palestinian Federation in Chile, a prominent BDS activist, was prevented entry into Israel

Monday afternoon, Anwar Makhlouf, head of the Palestinian Federation in Chile, was prevented from entering Israel. According to a comprehensive examination carried out by the Ministry of Strategic Affairs, Makhlouf is one of the most prominent figures in the boycott movement against Israel in the Chilean arena over the years.

Minister of Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan: “Anwar Makhlouf is a major boycott activist whose organization is trying to significantly harm the State of Israel and his attempt to enter the country is intended for this purpose.”

Makhlouf actively, consistently and publicly promotes boycotts against the State of Israel and acts to undermine the bilateral relations between Israel and Chile, with an emphasis on economic relations and trade.

According to the policy decided over six months ago by Minister of Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan, together with Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, the State of Israel will not allow entry to activists working to promote boycotts of Israel.

Minister Erdan: "The days when foreign boycott activists who want to harm Israel operated here freely – have passed. We will not allow entry into Israel of enemies of the state."
