Netanyahu set to choose communications min. next Sunday

The prime minister offered the job to Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin, but because of US President Trump's visit, announced that he would postpone the final decision until next week.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that he would make the final decision on who to appoint to be minister of communications minister to next Sunday, due to all the preparations for US President Donald Trump's visit.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said that "this decision was made after consultation with the attorney general."

Last Wednesday, Netanyahu met with Levin in his office and offered him the position, which is currently held by Minister for Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi, in a temporary capacity.

Levin has not expressed his willingness to accept the position, despite pressure exerted on him to do so.

Last February, Netanyahu appointed Hanegbi as deputy minister for three months. He did so in the wake of the High Court's decision to hear petitions requesting that Netanyahu relinquish his post as minister of communications due to his investigation into "Case 2000," in which Netanyahu is suspected of colluding with Yedioth Ahronoth owner Arnon Mozes for mutual benefits.

Arnon Mozes is the publisher and owner of Yedioth Ahronoth Group, which includes Ynet.
