Thousands flock to beaches to beat the heat

Tens of thousands of Israelis took advantage of sun and high temperatures to hit the beaches, particularly in the north; temperatures and tourism are expected to rise throughout the holiday week.

Thousands of Israelis took advantage of high temperatures and vacationed throughout the country on Saturday. The Kinneret saw around 25,000 travelers, while Tse'elon Beach was closed after it was filled to capacity.

The higher-than-average temperatures were the result of a low pressure system over the Sinai.

In an effort to accommodate increased numbers of travelers in the north of the country, especially during the upcoming holiday, the Kinneret Authority will operate buses ferrying vacationers to Kinneret beaches from Tiberias for free.

The Nature and Parks Authority noted that the amount of travelers is standard for the season and the upcoming Jewish holiday of Shavuot will bring tens of thousands of travelers to the Dan and Banias nature reserves and the Hurshat Tal National Park.
