Surprised residents kept their distance, but still managed to photograph and film the animals before reporting their presence to animal control authorities.
The Kiryat Ono municipality noted that wild boars have not been spotted in the area for many years.
However, this is not the first time wild boars have gone city slicking. In January, two wild boars were discovered in public parks in the city of Bat Yam before they were captured and released into the wild.
Despite being common in Israel, wild boars are a protected species. They are large, intelligent mammals that have an omnivorous diet. With a developed sense of smell and quick digging ability, they are able to find food such as bulbs, fungi, plants and invertebrates. They are also known to intrude upon agricultural fields to find food easily.
In the last few years, with the expansion of human settlements, wild boars are finding food more readily accessible in cities and other communities.
The wild boar population is largely concentrated in northern Israel, but the animals have recently begun to migrate south and west.
