Yedioth Ahronoth journalist to receive Shalem Fund prize

Telem Yahav will receive the Shalem Fund's prize for excellence in the field of media and communications for his work reporting on disadvantaged populations, Holocaust survivors and people with disabilities.

Yedioth Ahronoth journalist Telem Yahav has been chosen as this year's recipient of the Shalem Fund's prize in the field of communications.

Once a year, the organization grants prizes and awards in recognition of ongoing activities and projects for the well-being of people with developmental disabilities. The prizes and recognition shine light on the foundation's activities in an effort to improve the quality of life of those with developmental disabilities in all aspects of life.

Yahav, 32, is a graduate of Tel Aviv University's Communications and Political Science departments and was editor-in-chief of the university's student paper during his studies.

Yahav began working for Yedioth Ahronoth in 2011, focusing on economics and law in Jerusalem.

Since 2013, he has been the welfare and labor correspondent for the newspaper, focusing extensively on reducing social gaps and assistance to disadvantaged populations, Holocaust survivors and people with disabilities.

"I would like to thank the Shalem Fund for choosing me for this year's prize," said Yahav. "Over 1.5 million people with disabilities live in Israel, many of whom have complex and difficult lives. In the course of my job, I meet children, families, teachers and other professionals who deal with difficult realities every day.

"I am happy that I have the right to serve people whose cries are weak and to help them realize their rights and the state's obligations towards them."

Riva Muskal, chairwoman of the foundation, said, "The prize committee saw fit to select Yahav, one of the outstanding candidates in the category of media, for his quality journalistic activities and for shedding light on the success stories of people with mental disabilities."

Yahav will be presented with the award in November in the presence of the Minister of Welfare and Social Services Haim Katz, various community leaders and professionals at the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv.
