1. Ludicrous
Alex ,   Boston   (03.17.05)
The manner in which our dictatorship continues to harrass and belittle this national hero is a disgrace to every living Jew in Israel. The man prevented war by his actions. Those Jews that feel he betrayed his country aren't being honest with themselves. He exposed a system of lies and corruption that everyone with an IQ knew existed. How do you expect him not to violate the conditions of his release when the "conditions" specify how many squares of toilet paper he can use and the color of draws he has to wear. The conditions being imposed on him by this radical regime are embarrassing and ludicrous.
2. Vanunu
Zarina Bhatia ,   UK   (03.17.05)
It is truly unreasonable to punish a Peace Activist who wanted the world to be free of nukes all his life, he served imprisonment for 18 years, is not fully released, because he has no freedom of movement or future role for Peace or hope for a nuclear free world to see.
3. shame on you
let vaanunu go   (03.18.05)
he paid already his punishment
4. Set Him Free
Julia Petry ,   Lansing,MI. USA   (03.18.05)
He has suffered enough for telling the truth and defending peace.
5. New threats to Vanunu
Larry Zweig ,   Fuerth, Germany   (03.18.05)
B"H Israel has to find another way of looking at, and treating/reacting to the world. This "tradition" of fear and suspicion leads to hate, and this hate is poisoning Israeli society and anything Jewish that looks toward Israel for guidance. Vanunu is one of the many (but still way too few) that is trying to go beyond the hate and suspicion and should be treated as a partner for discussion... not as a threat.
6. Vannunu's arrest
Bill ,   Vienna, VA, USA   (03.18.05)
The Israeli government shows itself to be viciously small=minded and fearful by arresting Vanunu again. He cannot possibly harm Israeli security, since he was in prison for 19 years. Has Israeli science not progressed in that time? These are obviously the acts of a corrupt government.
7. vanunu
judith markoff ,   los angeles   (03.18.05)
Shame. Vanunu is one of the Just Men of the world. His crime? Truth.
8. Mordechai Vanunu
sandra ,   New Zealand   (03.18.05)
The Government of Israel thinks that it is the only real democracy in the middle east. Democractic governments allow people freedom of association and freedom to travel. We have crowds of Israeli tourists coming to New Zealand, they probably hate being at home so much in the hell zionists have created. New Zealand has recently put up with Israeli agents attempting to forge New Zealand passports. Let Vanunu go and prove you are a democratic nation O Israel. He served his time for no crime! Shalom, Salaam Alekum, Siochain Peace. Let us all work for a world free of nuclear and other weapons.
9. Super-Ludicrous
Charlie Abzug ,   Randallstown,MD, USA   (03.18.05)
This apostate Jew should be locked up indefinitely. He lied his way to early release from prison by claiming that he had already revealed everything he knew, and he continues to attempt to undermind the security of the nation of Israel and to attempt to bring about, G-d forbid, its destruction. Lock him up and THROW AWAY THE KEY.
10. Vannunu
Birdi Haven ,   Ramat Gan Israel   (03.18.05)
Vannunu, the traitor sold his story to the Bitish press for a huge amount of money.Dont call him a peace activist, he should be serving a life sentance. Instead of keeping his mouth shut now,he has to make himself important by telling more secrets. Shame on him.
11. VANUNU
Mimi ,   US   (03.18.05)
Evidentally the word WHISTLEBLOWER is a foreign concept to the Israeli government nearly as foreign as the concept of "democracy", "free speech" and of course, "human rights"> Mr. Vanunu will forever be a symbol of integrity and honor to those who value such qualities. He restored my my faith in the idea that one person can and does make a difference in human history in a constructive and positive manner. VIVA Mordechai.! MAY JUSTICE PREVAIL for your righteous efforts. love Mimi
12. Vanunu
George Richards ,   Castlegar, Canada   (03.18.05)
We all know and admire Mordechai Vanunu, many of those those who can't agree with his action defend his right to take it. In the vernacular of today: Mordechai is 'big'. No petty restrictions, no shackles on his freedom, nothing, can diminish him. Those that try look smaller still.
13. Let Vanunu Go!!
Czarek ,   UK   (03.18.05)
I wonder if the security service appreciate the irony of their name in English?
14. Vanunu's a hero
Wesley Parish ,   New Zealand   (03.18.05)
In growing up, I was faced with a few interesting questions on how groups of people rule themselves, and the most compelling answer was that people rule themselves most effectively when they can trust each other and by extension, the ones in power over them. I found that in the run-up to PNG Independence, the Kerr Constitutional Crisis in Australia and in various histories I read with great interest. I also found it in haTenakh, the book that to Christians is known as the Old testament. Vanunu's merely an Israeli who's discovered he can no longer trust the Israel Government. But he's been willing to take the risk of speaking his mind, and paying the penalties. In democratic terms, as commonly understood from America's impassioned proclamations during the Cold War on the subject of dissedents, that makes him a hero. Israel has to come to terms with the fact that the world has been extremely well educated by America on such matters. It won't be easy, and it won't be any fun. But for Israel to survive in any sense besides that of a beleaguered theocracy, it must be faced.
15. Mr. Vanunu
Ted ,   Australia   (03.18.05)
If only the Israeli political hierarchy had this man's courage, determination, world peace and love for their fellow man, teh world would be a far happier, safer place to live and thrive in Peace and Harmony.
16. Vanunu
Maryaleen Trafford ,   Toronto, CANADA   (03.19.05)
Mordechai Vanunu has been unjustly deprived of his freedom since his release from prison in April 2004. These latest charges represent a shocking aberration of justice in a supposedly democratic country. Cancel the restrictions, withdraw the charges and let Vanunu go free.
17. YOU are a traitor Birdi
Ursulla Topkapi ,   Turkey   (03.19.05)
You better make up your mind, do you want War or Peace. Shame on you.
18. Vanunu and the State of Israel
Andrew ,   Brooklyn, NY, USA   (03.20.05)
I personally don't consider Vanunu a traitor for what he did. If you want to bash him for supposedly taking money for his story, that's up to you.... But I definitely think that Israel had and still has a structure of lies, secrecy, and lacks the real elements of a democracy. It's people like Vanunu who can bring that element to play. Maybe you critics should have more respect for him.
19. Vanunu to face trial
Bruce Katz ,   Montreal, Canada   (03.20.05)
Once again we bear witness to the attempt of tyrants to silence one of the righteous Jews who has dared to speak out against israel's military establishment which for all intent and purpose is synonymous with the government of Israel. Know this: there are many more righteous Jews in the world who support Mordecai Vanunu and who see in him the Righteous Jew who states the truth in the face of Tyranny. Know this as well:THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!
20. Vanunu
Peggie Preston ,   London, UK   (03.21.05)
Set him FREE. Allow him to leave to meet his family and friends. He has suffered so much so bravely.
21. Stay away from Vanunu
soul jay ,   Texas   (03.22.05)
Vanunu has paid his price for the so-called crime and should stay free. Oh... his crime, exposing Israel's lies which ultimately means the survival of humanity. Leave him alone and get busy with something more important like Palestinian right and Israeli peace.
22. Birdi's comments
Dan Folkenstein ,   New Jersey   (03.22.05)
Vanunu exposed Israel's secret to the world by giving them to the British newspaper. What if they paid him back? Sharon's has been accused of money fraud and what? He is not even getting indicted nor is Sharon. So, wake up Birdi and decide which road you want.. peace or war. Oh, byt the way Israel is one of four countries that has not yet signed a non-proliferation treaty.
23. You're all missing the point
Shai ,   Israel   (03.22.05)
It's not about whether Vaanunu is an ethical person. It's about whether he broke a law, whether laws of confidentiality are "optional" legally and whether a government has the right to enforce a law even in the face of criticisms you all have proferred. I claim the Israeli government acted properly and in good faith - it was Vaanunu who has soul searching to do. Vaanunu signed an agreement when he got the job that he wouldn't reveal the information that he revealed, and the penalty for revealing this information was known to him. The government then as now was legitimate, elected by Israelis. All governments who have gained legitimacy by election have laws that their citizens agree to follow by virtue of being citizens in a democracy. Some laws related to national security, and breaking them is as a matter of legal consensus an act of treason in a democracy. If Israel's legitimate government believed that its nuclear deterrent must remain secret to be most effective, and an oath of silence to this end was signed by Vaanunu, the government was right to expect that VAanunu saw himself bound by the government's priorities, at the expense of his own. Whether any of you like the government's decision, whether Vaanunu liked the decision, is not relevant, just like you may not like stopping at red lights or reporting your income for tax purposes. We do it anyway, and use the tools of democracy to influence government policy in legitimate ways, not in illegal ways. Vaanunu could have legitimately tried to convince others INSIDE the government of the error of their ways as he saw it, but instead Vaanunu broke the law. He lied. He signed an oath that he didn't intend to keep. He served his term and was released, and he broke the law again, and no not all the the 21 laws he broke were frivolous. He made his choices, and the government made its choices, and whether any of you admire or disdain the acts of a man who lied and by doing so endangered my country remains and forever will be a distraction from the fundamental facts. Vaanunu should be in jail because he believes laws don't apply to him.
24. The courage of Vanunu
Adeline O'Keeffe ,   London, England   (03.22.05)
Israel is scrambling around, clutching at straws in an effort to intimidate Vanunu and the huge International Campaign that continues to support this courageous whistleblower. Anyone of sane mind will know that Vanunu has no secrets to tell anyone - all that he knew was revealed 19 years ago to the Sunday Times – and he has paid a very heavy price for speaking the truth. Israel has shot itself in the foot: the recent charges illustrate why Israel's insistence that he has secrets are, like the “secret” evidence at his trial, nonsensical: the charges do not refer to him passing any state secrets but are about him talking to journalists - since when has it been a chargeable offence to talk to a journalist? As Daniel Ellsberg recently said, the real secret that Israel doesn’t want revealed is that Vanunu left prison, after the most barbaric treatment over 18 years, a sane and compassionate individual and an inspiration to many. Mordechai Vanunu has served the full sentence and Israel needs to, without delay, grant him a passport and Let Him Go!
25. Praise Mr Vanunu's courage
Sandra Jacobs ,   New Zealand   (03.30.05)
iI is important that courageous men like Mr Vanunu are prepared to reveal to the world what the AEC and other countries only seem prepared to do selectively. All nations should be treated the same, and all nuclear arsenals sholuld be known on an international level. Mr Vanunu has shown tremendous courage and self sacrifice in order to supply the information has has done about Israel's nuclear capabilities. The only way to avoid war in the world is to cooperate and make sure that no country has any advantage over another. Even the nuclear deterrent works this way.
26. Vanunu Free
Raja Ibrahim ,   Pistoia (italy)   (04.01.05)
A state who wants the peace, don't keep a man like mr Vanunu in prison. All the jews must be proud of Vanunu. OUR GREETINGS FOR VANUNU
