It's called "taking a stand," Dr. Halperin-Keidar. One does not compromise on Truth, as one can on personal preferences.
It is a pity that what passes for "strength" on the Left, is really just indecision. Note that they accuse those of us on the Right of being "rigid" and "uncompromising" whenever we don't just roll over and let them do whatever they want when it is against our principles.
Sorry, but real life requires having principles. And they must be based on fact, not fantasy: on commitment to proven ideals, not to expediency or the 'theory de jour'.

If we are right, why should we "compromise," and if we are wrong, why should they?
