1. US think we are a banana republic !
David ,   Kfar-Saba   (06.12.05)
US dare to ask us to fire four Israeli security heads because our business with China but US didn' t hesitate to sell to the arabic country Oman an israeli-origin helmet-mounted systems for the F-16 fleet of this arab country. So the US must stop his cynism
2. US demands on Israel
Hilda ,   USA   (06.12.05)
Is Israel the latest banana republic with all the demands but no benefits? . I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree and leaves do not fall far from the bush.,
3. US think we are a banana republic!
John ,   USA   (06.12.05)
Come on! Be realistic, had it not been for the US, Israel would have vanished long time ago. So you Israelis should behave yourselves and listen to your masters in the US. Do whatever the US tells you to do since the blood that circulates in your bodies is American!!!
4. Israel has to make a choice
Shai ,   Israel   (06.12.05)
I don't think it's a question of being a Banana Republic. Yes, we don't need to feel that we must listen to every edict from the US if it endangers us. I'm not recommending we should. But we need to be clear amongst ourselves about whether not obeying the US is in our interests, chief amongst those being our security. The US is clearly giving us the message that they've done the calculation and are willing to cut us loose should we decide to put our eggs in the Chinese basket. Israel has to do the calculation, as well. Do we have more to gain than lose by snuggling up with China? Can we hold out another 10 years until China is an equivalent super-power? Then by all means, let the US develop the technology themselves that we usually supply, and let's build our alliances with China at the expense of our alliances with the US. Maybe China can respect our security needs more than the US seems willing to as of late, with the proper incentives. Don't get me wrong, getting in bed with China would be a horrible result of the US's posturing, because I think that Israel and the US have a lot more in common than Israel and China. I can also understand that whereas in the past there was little conflict between being an American supporter of Israel and a supporter of the US, such a move by Israel would make American Jews and Evangelicals extremely uncomfortable, as they'll have to choose an allegiance against the Jewish state, something they've not had to do before. The results will be unpredictable and wrenching. But, it's clear that the US seems to think that either they have less to lose than gain by letting Israel be a free agent, or that Israel is "hooked" with little alternative, irrespective of what Israel's supporters, both Jewish and not, think. Maybe what we're offering to the alliance isn't worth as much as we think it is. Or, maybe they're just playing political hardball. So if China can give us the same backing in the Security Council that the US can, and if they need our military assistance more than they need Arab votes to cover them politically vis a vis Taiwan and on other issues, maybe it's time to rethink our alliance with the US. Alternatively, the way the US seems to be putting it to us, the only choice seems to be to become the US's 51st state. With the quality of our leadership of late, maybe that's a better way to secure our survival than another election.
5. Bar-B-Que versus Bow
Jonathan ,   Tel Aviv   (06.12.05)
Yes, Israel must make a choice...To me it's simple math...Hmm, the US gives Israel how many billions in foreign aid on an annual basis? The Chinese are willing to buy...how many millions in Israeli defense related products?! Hmm, there are how many evangelical christian suporters of Israel in the PRC? How many members of the tribe live in Beijing?! As Jackie Mason once said, the closest a Jew gets to a China...is when they order bow or dim sum on Friday night... So do the numbers, and know that sorry guys...But Bar-B-Que beats bow... I also think that the guys at the Pentagon and the NSC have been well briefed on the Israeli national pastime of pulling a "combinah"...You can only fool some of the people some of the time...As usual, even if their heads roll, they'll all end up with some cushy job sitting as a Mankal at some government enterprise...Old Mankalim don't die, they just get recycled!
6. John think again stupid
David ,   Kfar Saba   (06.12.05)
USA need Israel also guy ! US is very happy to obtain hight value intelligence from Israelis since the Cold War where US received all the informations about the Migs etc...and US learn from the israeli army how they have to act against arab terrorists. Israel is for America the only reliable country in this so essential part of the world. Without Israel US of course would be the first power of the world but with much more difficulties. And our only Master is G-od not USA !
7. to John...Unfortunetlly for us they are right
Yehouda ,   Israel   (06.12.05)
and unfortunetly they are right!!!!
8. and i love american people !
David ,   Kfar-Saba   (06.12.05)
Just to tell you that the reproach is against the US government not of course the american people that i admire and respect !
9. Don't bite the hand
Goy ,   Canada   (06.12.05)
Once again the spoilt colony of zion bites the hand that nurtured it. WIthout us you would still be in poland. So david and all you brilliant rejects wake up and smell the coffee. We made you and now you should slave away. No arrogance or else no allowance:)
10. To 5
Shai ,   Israel   (06.12.05)
Consider as well in your analysis, though, that China may actually soon be in a position to purchase much more Israeli weaponry and technology than the US, with economic benefits exceeding any donated weaponry or foreign aid received by the US. Consider, too, that China's UN Vote is of equivalent value of the US's (both are on the Security Council). Consider, too, that Jewish identity and power in the US is expected to wane over the next 2 decades as the community assimilates, in a way that will make the Jewish American diaspora community irrelevant as a distinct political force united in the belief that securing Israel's survival and shepherding its continuation strengthens the US's defense posture (there will likely be other forces like a growing Evangelical community). The US administration's scolding of Israel may be a means of advancing America's defense industry, now that competition with European and Israeli manufacturers has bitten into profits. Yet, Israel's military establishment is part of its strategic strength, so it cannot allow it to be weakened by a thinning of revenue, thus cutting off sources for research of technologies that are designed to offset the gains Arab enemy states are reaping via American and European weaponry sales. Therefor the scoldings we're getting from America is seen as the echo of a potential security threat, and we take that seriously. Israel is already bracing itself to detach from American economic assistance in an attempt to repurchase its autonomy and freedom of movement, as American interests in Europe and amongst pro American oil-rich Arab states increasingly exclude consideration of Israel. The US administration feels entitled to make pronouncements designed to clip Israel's wings in a way that's inconsistent with its proclamations about the war on terrorism (words like "proportional response", "political wing", "activists", etc.) When we see it doesn't apply these standards to itself, we are baffled. I think Israelis see what's coming, and China is designed as a security policy, not just a "combinah". This is not just about commercial interests, it's about survival of our ability to defend ourselves in the wake of America's commercialization of its military industry, where profits and jobs and not alliances are always the key considerations. There's a difference between respect between 2 allies and being in each other's pockets. Public scoldings don't convey that respect. If the US administration indeed feels that Israel is a liability, by all means that's fine - it should continue acting the way it does and Israel should be free to pursue love elsewhere out there in the great sea of national self-interest. I suspect, however, that the US administration will not risk avoiding a step into the fray to prevent the internal political whirlwind that would result if Bush loses Israel to some degree as an ally and suddenly to some degree gains Hamas. I don't suspect that most Americans would be proud to preside over Bush turning into Chirac, while they themselves turn into the French. The sooner Bush catches on to that and reins in Feith and those behind this trend, the better for AMERICAN interests. China is not as threatening as terrorism is, for most Americans. I'm sure that the interests of both countries can be protected with a proper attitude by both sides. Israel needs to respect America's fears about China's ascendency and not sell weaponry that can be used to threaten American allies like Taiwan and Japan, and America needs to understand Israel's need for security by not giving high technology weaponry to Arab countries in conflict with its ally, Israel, or to compensate it with funding that allows Israel to keep its America-diminished military edge, since if America doesn't supply it the Europeans will.
11. Without "us"? (9)
Shai ,   Israel   (06.12.05)
Hey goy, you're from Canada, eh? You're not part of the "us" without whom we'd "be in Poland", and for the record, the United States displaced France as a major military backer of Israel only in 1973, a full quarter century after Israel was established. I'll give credit where it's due, though, you've got great beer and hockey, which I consider to be amongst the greatest of Canadian Civilization's contributions to humanity, especially when had in equal amounts. I don't know what we'd have done without it - so thanks, goy! Coors is kosher!!!!
12. Better to be Smart
Jeff ,   USA   (06.12.05)
Israel's defense establishment is an important part of the US Government's military industrial complex. Israel also supports international controls on weapons exports. China should not be given a pass by selling them technology they want before they prove to the US (and Israel) that they can be responsible actors on the world stage, which they have thus far failed to do. Weapons sales to India and other emerging democracies is smart, as long as they are accompanied by other transactions, which increases confidence in bilateral relationships. There is nothing to be gained, other than cash, by selling this technology to China, within the current environment. Therefore, such sales are not smart.
13. Crisis USA ISRAEL
Sahul ,   USA   (06.12.05)
The problem are not the mistakes partner do some times without bad intentions. Israeli and US administrations did mistakes. The problem however is how the US politics approaches the partners. It seems the y do not respect them. Not only Israelis, but also others. And even more: Americans themself are not respected at home. Limitet rights on workplace, Limited access to healthcare, limieted access to education, limited access to justice. On the other hand, unlimited access to weapons, contentless Walt Diney, Hollywood, Advertisement, Manipulation in mass media. Short, in gross, uneducated, violent consumer society with 2.1 milion Peaple in jails. The problem is that America is not leading any more. Probably never had. The downfall of Sovjet Union demasked it low cultural state. Not the allies are the problem, but the indemocratic status of America, where money owned by 5% rules the country. Soviet union had one party, USA has two. Italy has fourty two.
14. David is a good example
(06.13.05)
he is a good example as a Jew , this is their way of life since thousends of years .. he tried to attack America and to see how many will support him and when he found that the most attacked him he started again kissing the hands of the Americans because he needs them ....Israel don't care about America or the Americans they car only about them selfs ... for the Jews is only them and then the flood can come they don't care .... if one day Israel became a great country stronger than america (it will never happen) America and the Americans will be the first victims for the Israelians (they are allready victims for the Israelians) ... .
15. OK Israelis
(06.13.05)
I hear you speak , here, on this talkback- and many of you say- screw the USA- and go with China- Well, I say WHEN? The USA should align with the ARABS, get the oil- drop the jews- think about it-the US and the arabs would rule the world.
16. Israel Should Arrest U.S. Army General Ward
Marcel ,   Florida   (06.13.05)
If Israel had the guts ,it would arrest General Ward as a foreign agent interfering in Israel's National Security and trade him for Jonathan Pollard. The post of a few arrogant snobs who like to see Israel kicked around by the big bully tells me that one day SOON ,my country will pay the ultimate price for it's betrayel and incredible hypocricy and arrogance towards Israel . It's a long way down when you sit high on yor perch and God clips the wings of the pompous Eagle.
17. antisemitism against me !
David ,   Kfar-Saba   (06.13.05)
I don' t know who is the rotten people who wrote that '' David he is a good example as a Jew , this is their way of life since thousends of years .. he tried to attack America and to see how many will support him and when he found that the most attacked him he started again kissing the hands of the Americans because he needs them ares attack me saying "NOT AT ALL I DON' T CARE what people think about my opinion ! Just i have american friends and i don' t want to hurt them. You are a stupid b..... !!!!
18. and yes i spit on the US administration which...
David ,   Kfar-Saba   (06.13.05)
...support a palestinian state, which tortures Jonathan Pollard and treat with honor at the White House Sami Al-Arian the chief of the terrorist Palestinian Islamic Jihad in USA !
19. The Demands of the US
Adina Kutnicki ,   NJ, US   (06.13.05)
The US should not dare to demand obedience from Israel. While they decry Israel's ties with China, what about their own arming to the teeth of the Arabs for decades! John Loftus's most stunning book, "The Secret War Against the Jews" exposes all this subterfuge against Israel. In fact, the much publicized blowing up of the US Liberty by Israel was not an accident, rather it was deliberate. Care to now why? The Israelis found out that the US was spying ! on Israel and was giving over ALL of its battle plans to Eqypt. Imagine that! Your supposed friend is selling you out to your mortal enemy. If Israel hadn't blown up the Liberty, the plans would have been transmitted and Israel would for sure have been destroyed. Now I know that antizionist and antisemites couldn't care less and wish Israel had been destroyed, but that is too bad for them. In addition, the erstwhile CIA had for many years worked in tandem with the PLO. Just one of their many dirty secrets. This book is thoroughly researched and documented because John Loftus had the highest security clearance to access all the "hidden" archives. In addition, other material was garnered from the freedom of information act. and from retired intelligence officers. (many have guilty consciences about betraying Israel) Despite all this I think the US is a great country, not because of its often crooked gov't policies, but because of its people. In addtion, the Congress was often kept in the dark by the machinations of the State Dept, Executive Branch, CIA and FBI. At work particularly under Bush Senior when he was Vice President Vice President was a clandestine security branch that ran counter to all checks and balances supposedly in place. What a disgraceful part of history.
20. POLLARD= SPY---david
(06.13.05)
DAVID, Pollard is a traitor and spy- the USA is protecting itself. and AFTER ALL THE USA DOES FOR ISRAEL- $$$$$$$$$$$aid, military-fighting for you at the UN- the USA has an open welfare asccount for Israel- I think you ISRAELIS do not know your position- the USA HAS MADE YOUR EXISTENCE POSSIBLE_ though you have many racist laws that make Americans SICK to their stomachs- we turn a blind eye-- I think the USA should drop Israel- like you jewish people on this talkback are wanting--I have a feeling we would make alot of friends that way- worldwide- so when can we severe our Alliance?? today?

22. CRAZYNESS
JAY ,   CHICAGO   (06.13.05)
I AM A JEW, AN AMERICAN, AND A STRONG SUPPORTER OF ISRAEL. I CARE FOR HER VERY VERY DEEPLY AND PLAN ON VISITING IN NOVEMBER. BUT I HAVE OT ASK, WHAT WAS THE DEFENSE ESTABLISHMENT THINKING? WHILE I UNDERSTAND IT BEING A GOOD STRATEGIC IDEA TO HAVE CLOSE RELATIONS WITH BEIJING, AT WHAT PRICE? INSULTING A GOOD FRIEND FOR SOME MINOR STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE OR MINOR PROFIT AT IAI?
23. Israel must behave
Jian ,   San Joase, CA, USA   (06.14.05)
I am Chinese. Backed by US security coucil veto and millions of military aid, Israel can not have an independent foreign policy. Until China becomes the superpower equal to US, Israel must behave, as the guarding dog for the middle east oil.
24. Fire someone
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.02.06)
How about firing that hypocrite george haj bush and his administration of fools? They sell weapons that the pentagon can not afford to our and their enemies and they tell us what to do? That is the very height of stupidity. Ofcourse having a war on international terrorism and pushing the road crap for a palestinian state of terrorism is okay by haj and his stooges. Thanks to both bushes I am ashamed to be a registered republiccan, buthank G-d I am not a democrat!
