Wow, you surprise me- the OVERLY ARMED IDF(by US welfare, may I add), was shootting at little girls and boys- This man was risking his life to help them- children- caught in this barrage of bullets- A huge army firing at their home- (and the Palestinians are suppose to like the Israelis ) This British man is a hero- And I think its a step in the right direction that the Israeli military court convicted the IDF member. This is merely the tip of the iceberg. Israeli soldiers have killed very many by their trigger happy shootings. The difference is that Rachel Corrie was American and unlike the British who complained vociferously to Israel about the murder of Tom Hurndall, the US Government didn't say one word about her murder. She was run over in broad daylight by an unrepentant (and unpunished) IDF driver in a US made bulldozer of the make that also sells trainers and tee shirts. Rachel was trying to protect a Palestinian home from destruction in the Gaza strip and had more guts in her little finger than all the 'heroic' settlers in the occupied territories all multiplied together. Isn't that Rachel was American and Thomas was British. I did my national service in Tzefa, Tsanhanim. Do any of you people who have commented so far actually know what being in a confined space with little room to move while at the same time still having to kill or capture a terrorist and protect your teammates actually entails? I bet you have no idea. Let me tell you, its extremely difficult. We had numerous situations where kids as young as 10 were armed with small pistols, and in one instance had a suicidebelt with dynamite and a detonator attached. This soldier shot the wrong individual. He's guilty and he will face appropriate punishment as have soldiers in the US and British armed forces. That does not give any of you who have commented so far the right to blanket blame the entire IDF as if it was some sort of policy to shoot non-combatants intentionally. We do our best. Sometimes we make mistakes, as have the Americans and the British in their own conflicts. I'd say 99% of the time we get it right. That doesnt mean that fatal mistakes dont occur.
