Iran knows it cannot win a war against a powerful enemy like the United States. The only rational thing to do is bog them down in a ruinous war of attrition on home soil. I find it ironic that Iran's most brutal period where it was most savage against its own people was when Iran was a strong USA ally under the Shah. Iranians remember SAVAK, they remember the injustice against Mossadaegh. If the USA attempts a military adventure against Iran it will be a disaster for both sides.
