The problem is with a group of people who as Alan stated, have hijacked the faith and in the rest who are doing little to change that. The Muslim world today feels isolated, betrayed by their own and by many in the world which is becoming less tolerant to them. Many Muslims see the failures of the Muslim world and are trying to change that but they are faced by internal heavy currents and the wind the world is blowing is not helping. They believe they have no partners anywhere and thus are isolated. Islam is at a crossroad where it will either face a progressive renaissance or further demise. We all seek the leaders to propel the Muslim world into a better future measured by progress in education, civil society, sciences and etc. However this measure is internal with values that are part of the faith and not necessarily artificially imported. We are not talking about cosmetics but rather in the core. Alex, one can also argue that Muslims had their share of genocide (Bosnia, Chechnya, Beirut, etc.) so it is not a righteous argument. Muslims are also victims of this terror (Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc) this is not Islam against the world these are fanatics against life. The conclusion of this is that we all can inflict harm and terror on each other, then we must come together to find another way. Life is greater than all of us.
