1. Illusions
Susan Barth ,   Bet Shemesh   (08.18.05)
There is no question that the police and military can unite for a common purpose, and when the purpose is positive, we can all stand proud ? But when Jew is against Jew, what will you tell your grandchildren when the same united police and military come to evict your family?
2. The Media Created The Myth- To Demonize YeShA
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (08.18.05)
It's like all of the whack-job conspiracy-theorists who claim that the Jews rule the world.
3. I'm not impressed with any of your leaders
akiva ,   chicago   (08.18.05)
I come at this from the perspective of a convert, on outsider. I have never seen such lack of leadership and organizational ability on all sides as I have seen in this tragedy. You can learn alot from America in encouraging a pragmatic center to mediate disputes. You can also learn the tragedy of other countries that have suffered horribly from dependence upon US aid. This is a Chinese century and you can't afford to be on the wrong side of the Sino-US divide. We will make aliyah and all US Jews should now.
4. illusions shattered
gigi ,   belgium   (08.18.05)
Even after saying for years Israel should get out of Gaza quickly, now that I see the way Sharon organized it and also from reading a wide spectrum of Israeli press reports Hebrew & English including talkbacks I relize Israel couldn't uproot Gaza until it lost all its decent Jewish heart. Israels founders must be turning in their graves looking how cold their secular Israel has become and their illusion shattered.
5. Self-imposed restraints
Ilan Toren ,   Ariel, Israel   (08.18.05)
The end result was pretty much determined by the insistence by the Yesha Council and the people of Gush Katif to avoid violence and restict themselves to civil protest alone. The need to tell the story to the public is essential as the entire process of disengagement has been intentionally disengaged from normal democratic practices. This is the debate that should have taken place in the referendum. Let the Israeli public see the consequences of this stupid and evil decision.
6. The Myth of Israeli has been totally shattered
(08.18.05)
You have a left wing dictatorship in the making. God help us.
7. Heartless
chana   (08.19.05)
Do you realize what you're writing about? This is not just some "military operation".. rather, it is the brutal destruction of communities and homes, and families who have nowhere to go.. and so much for Sharons Y"S solution for every issue related to the expulsion. Would any other country - never mind the only, so called "democracy" in the Middle East - even dream about throwing people out of their homes with no housing solution for even half of them? Hotels, yea, sure.. the fee is being deducted from their "compensation".. this is called a solution? This is one teeny issue in the larger scope of the situation which is sure to encourage terrorism on an even larger scale then before.. wake up people.
8. Two points
Lenny ,   USA   (08.19.05)
#1- I believe that had they placed their ideals and desires above their conscience, they could have easily thwarted the plan. However what was exposed to the world was that with a Jew, his soul and his bond with another is more important than anything. When push came to shove, rather than fight and hurt a fellow Jew for the sake of a personal ideal, they hugged and cried at the great pain of the situation. The pain was not merely 'oh, we're being dragged out of our homes...'- although that isnt a small thing either; the real pain was that the very cherished beliefs and ideals which they held and lived by, were being destroyed by fellow Jews. This was the greatest of pain. However, being that the ultimate point is Jewish unity, therefore it supercedes any and all personal interpretations of how things should be. #2- Even the great positive things which came from this, namely the exposure of the 'settlers' for who they truly are- good Jews- and the fact that it did manage to unite both the Right and the Left- and it also brought some unity of them together... However none of this justifies the terrible effects of what would come from this. I'll just list a few: Simple soldiers who had just entered the army were forced to mute their conscience and ideals for the sake of an unknown ideal. They were even forced to convince the settlers of this ideal! This fact, together with what they had to actually do, is very not good for both their personal self, as well as the general social morale. This is a very big issue (not for a forum like this), but I'm sure its spoken of at length in many places. Then of course there is the damage to the families. Everything from physical to emotional to spiritual... There is the damage to Israel's security- it has the potential of being very large, Lo Aleinu. In damages Jews worldwide: if your fellow Jews could destroy a synagogue and expell Jews from their homes, why cant anyone else? Suppose Russia decided tomorrow morning that all Jews should leave Russia- its just more convenient is they would do so in order to quell the growing antisemitism... How could anyone argue with them? How could Israel say anything??? It also impacts the general 'war on terrorism' by showing progress in their plight. Each one of these points could be explained at length- and there are several other issues as well- but there isnt room here to write it all. May we hear *truly* good news. (Which involves Israel deciding that it will stand straight and declare its pride in being Jewish and explain its decision to be absolutely devoted to the security of its citizens in every way.)
9. Road Map
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.19.05)
to all you whining, whingeing, foul-mouthed fanatics, save your energies for the "road map", which should keep you busy for quite some time in the near future on Ynet.
10. The settlers are loosers and they always will be
accessol ,   Spelthorne, England   (08.19.05)
Isn't it about time that Yediot realized that the settlers, be they in Gaza or on the West Bank, are finished; the US has decided it wants to cut its losses and doesn't give a cent for the theatrical antics of these layabouts. The honeymoon is over, Israel has to get out of Palestine and start behaving in a civilised way for a change instead of relying on handouts from the US taxpayer and pressure from US Zionists to give it a permit to play the prima donna. ve BARUCH HASHEM!
11. to #3 outsider
ringo ,   israel   (08.20.05)
you are confused, outsider
12. US is paying first for settlements then for dismantling....
American taxpayer ,   USA   (08.20.05)
news.yahoo.com WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is planning to send assessment teams to Israel to help decide how much new U.S. economic aid might be provided to help develop the Galilee and Negev regions. Already the biggest recipient of U.S. aid at $2.3 billion a year, Israel is believed to be asking for another $2.2 billion to develop the areas where many of the 8,500 Jewish settlers leaving Gaza will be relocated. ++++++++++ I don't understand why you are crying - the US help comes to $258,000.00 per man, woman. or child! I wish I lived in Gaza!
13. Come and try living in Gaza!
Alf Red ,   London   (08.20.05)
My dear American Taxpayer! No person in Israel has ever seen any of these dollar notes. I mean ordinary people: new immigrants, settlers etc. This money goes somewhere, and you would do better if you insist for your Govt to demand a clear and truthful account from corrupt Establishment and especially people like this swine Sharon and his boys, where the good dollars disappear without any useful trace.
14. RE: American Taxpayer
David ,   USA   (08.21.05)
And israel provides the US with over 100 billion per year in military intelligence. Also, had Israel fought its previous wars to the point of unconditional surrender instead of cease fires, there would be no problems with the arabs. Keep in the US prevented Israel form doing so. So get your rear end to work, get another job or whatever and help these people who were ethnically cleansed from their land, businesses and country.
15. illusion
fatma ,   gaza   (08.21.05)
in our holy book .there is some thing about illusion ..that the one whose work is not good and thinke it is well .like a thirsty man in a desert seeing the water running t o it when he reach nothing find this is the illusion of the settlers
16. 'JEW AGAINST JEW'????
Danielle ,   centre   (08.22.05)
I am sick to death of seeing and hearing this pathetic and manipulative slogan......it is as far from the truth and reality as is hell and earth. 'JEW FOR DEMOCRACY' 'JEW FOR THE LAW OF THE LAND' 'JEW FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE IN LARGE' 'JEWS FOR THE LOVE OF EACH OTHER' That is the reality of the situation.
17. Better, kill 2.2 billions from US taxpayers
