What this means is that in just 12 years, when these first-graders are able to vote, the demographic makeup of Israel's voters will already be shifting significantly. Nor will demographic changes in Israel cause Israel to depart from the middle east. Israel will need flexibility of action as well as strength in order to survive. Thinking militarily, there have been many, many campaigns in history in which an army was flexible on offense but too rigid on defense. Trying to keep all of that army's gains frequently results in the eventual destruction of that army. In contrast, flexible defense is often extremely successful. The situation now is longer, slower and lower-intensity than a military campaign, but has many of the same characteristics in the grand-strategic sphere. At a more personal level, I believe that the Jewish religion is important and must be supported and that Israel must be a democratic Jewish state; but I would be appalled if the religious parties dominated the government.
