1. I hope he died of AIDS
Avi ,   Jerusalem   (09.08.05)
And suffered horribly.
2. he was gay!
dave ,   herzliya   (09.08.05)
for the longest time people on the inside said he was sleeping with various bodyguard boys. he enjoyed them young and well built, preferably a little darker skinned. haha
3. Dramatic headlines, inconclusive end......
Shlomo ,   Jerusalem   (09.08.05)
Nothing new here. There were rumours of all this at the time of his death. "There was no way to ascertain the causes that brought about the patient's death," the report concludes. Last sentence negates the headlines and 80% of the articles contents... This is going to be one of those long lasting, constantly revived conspiracy stories like Rabins and Kennedy's death.
4. So what if he was Gay, some of my best friends..etc etc.
Patrick Fitzhenry ,   Prestatyn, Wales   (09.08.05)
Don't be a Homophobe......
5. #4 I agree with you. Sexual orientation irrelevant
Henry Fitzpatrick ,   UK   (09.08.05)
6. Arafat Is Dead So?
Gil ,   London   (09.08.05)
If you think about it, its more likely that he would have been able to access non-aids infected girls than guys. Therefore, if he contracted the hiv virus, its more likely that he was having a secret gay relationship than a an open hetero one with one of many willing, un-infected young Arab girls. Also, you have to ask yourself, if you were married to his wife, then wouldn't you be gay too?
7. your dad was a gay!!!
mohammed ,   telaviv   (09.08.05)
i beleive and i am sure that youd dad was a big gay...... cause i fucked him various times.... when you talk about arafat mother fucker you must put your fucken hand on your dirty head...ok??? fuck israel!!!!!!!!!!viva ARAFAT!!!!!! KICK SHARON'S ASS!!!!!!
8. Arafart
Nyctamere ,   Chelm   (09.08.05)
Most importantly, he is still dead. I read the Haaretz articles, and from that I gather that there can be several explanations, including a somewhat atypical AIDS crisis. Personally, I like the exotic toxins theory: has anybody EVER heard of a forensic test for, say, Okadaic acid, Concanavallin A, Phalloidin and suchlike? They didn't even go looking for the more mundane Ricin of Bulgarian umbrella's fame, so do you suppose they could have found any of the more fancy stuff from the Sigma catalogue?
9. Of Course it was Aids!
Good riddens ,   Israel   (09.08.05)
No falsified documents are necessary to prove he died of aids--Anyone who knows the basics of the disease could piece together the information and know that it was Aids!!
10. so much for not publishing incitement, slander etc
Rachel ,   London   (09.08.05)
11. A cover-up and not a mystery
Ilan ,   Ariel   (09.08.05)
A mystery is by definition uknowable. Here the information has either deliberately not collected or disposed of after the fact. The PA would be embarassed to admit that Arafat succumbed to an illness acquired by illicit behavior. "Saint Arafat sodomized young boys": Shocking. What are the real mysteries? Howabout that they are not embarassed that Arafat stole for the Palestinians nor that he was responsible for a large number of murders. That the evil fail is news, why it takes so long for that to happen. A big mystery
12. Some pattern here
Jul ,   Paris   (09.08.05)
This story is a good occasion to point at a common pattern in the arab world : the conspiracy theory. I'd sum it up like that : don't take responsibilities for your actions, blame someone else, preferably westerner and preferably jew. I think some progresses would be made if arabs and muslims reckoned that they're in their dire situation because of their own acts and beliefs and not because of some shadowy conspiracy aimed at them. Taking responsibility is the first (and indispensable) step toward improvement.
13. Arafatty
Abu Garwa ,   New York, NY   (09.08.05)
It wasn't suprising at all that when Arafat got sick and died, neither his wife nor his cabal of power-hungry terrorist brothers did anything to determine the cause of death, which could have very well been determined with a standard autopsy. By preventing truth and information to flow freely, this allowed rumors and innuendo to sow further mistrust and hate for Israel. Arafat's cronies were doing EXACTLY what Arafat wanted, because it's exactly what he himself would have done. Such tactics have long been the hallmark of dictators, arab "leaders" included. Surely, Arafat is spending eterninty in a dark cellar filled with dead pigs and swarming with cockroaches.
14. There's a 4th possibility...
ajaxlikid   (09.08.05)
Remember Arafat fell into coma the day Buh got reelected...
15. Mohamad / tel aviv
Gil ,   London   (09.08.05)
Wow you're a real smart guy aren't you? I'm amazed how your comments get published. Anyway, so what if Arafat was gay? There's nothing wrong with that and for sure there is a long history of homosexuality within Arab tradition. At least dont be ashamed of that its normal when you can['t have sex until marraige to be a bit gay probably, no?
16. Arafat: Aids
robin ben-chaim ,   israel   (09.08.05)
Well, my first thought is that I can't imagine anyone having sexual relations with him. But maybe when he went to the dentists, he picked it up.
17. ROMANIAN OFFICIAL IWAN PACHECA PROVIDED HIM BOYS
AKIVA ,   CHICAGO IL   (09.08.05)
My wife is Romanian and the former dictatorship catered to his every sexual whim when he was in country. He was a pedophile and a homosexual.
18. THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME ARAFAT WAS POSITIVE....
BENJAMIN ,   LONDON   (09.08.05)
19. What matters
Farouk ,   Jerusalem   (09.08.05)
What matters now is not how he died, that cannot change the fact that he is dead. Using the cause of death (true or not) to defame him does not matter, because he could not care less. Even the timing of his death has no bearing. Arafat lived and died a controversial figure; so those who love him will continue to do so and those who did not will continue to hate him; that cannot change. What matters is that can we close this page and move on beyond the person. Will our (Palestinians & Israelis) positions and opinions of each other remain driven from our feelings of each others leaders? Do we have separate personalities that drive us so we are leaders of our fate or shall we remain hostages to our perceptions of the characters of our respective leaders?
20. No death.....
Josie ,   Illinois   (09.08.05)
nor amount of poison could sufficiently kill the hell he rained upon Israel. If he died a million times it would not be enough. Let this be a lesson both to Israel and the United States that when you legitimize a terrorist the horror never ends. Now we have Abbas with a less than questionable past and look - we are doing the very same thing with him. His Rose Garden welcome proved it. The world who legitimized Arafat kept the hand of Israel from killing him. Anyway, it is not how he died but why this didn't happen years before!
21. Propaganda
Jacob ,   Bristol, UK   (09.08.05)
Propaganda is an interesting thing - you'll notice most international news reports (New York Times, say that the AIDS theory - long touted by Israeli security sources - is utterly discredited by these reports. The Israeli right-wing press can be relied on to print whatever fabrication they believe will be most damaging to Arafat's reputation. It's really pretty blatent.
22. A great man who had a great struggle.
Shaul ,   Singapore   (09.08.05)
Arafat is a great man who had a great struggle with a system that seems unfair to him and his people. Its not easy to go against a system. Remember him for that and not the way he died. Great prophets died miserably too @ the hands of evil men.
23. 18 once is enough!
akiva ,   chicago   (09.08.05)
24. WITHOUT
paul ,   paris   (09.08.05)
the most important is than" he is as dead as a Dodo".......Other ,to the website -please can-you stop to show the face of this disgusting personn...Beurk- All the long of his life he has been the worst ennemy of Palestinians.
25. To AJAXLIQUID
paul ,   paris   (09.08.05)
hello brother,my nickname is Monsieur Propre -amitiés-
26. To Akiva
NYC Girl   (09.08.05)
You're right about the Romanian dictatorship pimping for Arafat, and the reason people find that so hypocritical is because the PA is totally homophobic. Being gay and Palestinian can cause you to suffer some rather unpleasant consequences and that's why many of them will do anything they can to get into Israel where they don't have to fear being persecuted and worse.
27. Israel is the dirtiest
NY ,   NY   (09.08.05)
It 99.999% that Israel is resposible for his death. It is not a new technique for Israel to do. They are always say lie stuff and afterward the fact reveals. They are claiming polluot from Gaza and they are planning new boarder crossing between Gaza and Egypt to be under their control. What the hill they are talking about. I have a definite belief that the fight with Israel will continue at least for the next 100 years or so.....
28. who p.ssed in your test tube NY NY?
Benjamin ,   london   (09.08.05)
29. Just ridiculous
Jacob ,   San Francisco, USA   (09.08.05)
'Without specifying how he got this information, al-Kurdi said the germs were injected into Arafat in order to cover up signs of intentional poisoning." HOW PREPOSTEROUS!!! SINCE WHEN DOES A PATHOGEN COVER UP THE PRESENCE OF A POISON? AND, JUST HOW DID AN ISRAELI INJECT ARAFAT WITH HIV? IT'S A COVER UP ALRIGHT--COVERING UP ARAFAT'S HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE TRUE CAUSE OF HIS DEATH--AIDS!!! IF IT WAS NOT AIDS, WHY NOT RELEASE THE MEDICAL REPORT AND SET ALL SUCH RUMORS TO REST? WHY ALL THE SECRECY? YA GOTTA JUST LOVE IT--THE 'FATHER OF PALESTINE", ONE OF THE MOST HOMOPHOBIC PLACES ON EARTH WAS GAY!!!
30. to share
