As someone who knows victims of Hurricane Katrina, I'm appalled that this prominent person who claims to be a holy man would say such insensitive things about its victims. The ADL is needlessly responding to the message of a zealot and judging from the postings, many share his point of view about religion, faith, and Divine retribution.The Rabbis stratements are similar to those of other religious fundamentalists who blamed European Jewry for the Holocaust because they did not keep kosher. In their minds, that absolves the nazis of their sins. No one with these views will change their opinions and they do not feel the need to apologize for what they believe to be true. Moi shows himself to be prejudiced and ignorant when he declares that ALL religion is based on fear. In fact, Most followers of Judaism see their religion as a force for good--a guide to moral and ethical behavior.
