Guy Bechor is a sharp, realistic analyst. Israel needs a lot more like him. One may add that Bush's getting the U.S. forces bogged down in a clumsy, unrealistic attempt to bring quick democracy to Iraq, is now making it very hard for the U.S. to apply military power elsewhere; hence, the other alternative--appeasement.

Is Bechor pompus and ignorant? Yes of course, but he does make a valid argument regarding this. Bush's inconsistent policies lead to one thing and one thing only if you're an unarmed Arab dictatorship....get some nukes or you have no ground to stand on. Sadaam did what was asked of him, he let the inspectors in as requested for years and ultimately eliminated his weapons systems completely. Where is he now? What did following US orders and working with the UN do for Sadaam? He's on trial for his life. However, if you spit in the face of the US, lie, sell drugs, enslave your people and develop and distribute WMD's, the US "will consider a light-water reactor" in the future. Really, is that how it works? So you can either play by the rules and end up being trampled over, bend over and take it like Gadafi, or behave like a madman and be rewarded, tough choice.
3. Bush Ain't So Scary Anymore & The Dictators Smell This

I cannot agree more than I do with this incisive analysis. The second Bush term has been an unmitigated disaster. I voted for him twice, because the first time the notion of having Gore in power made me feel faint. His head was so far up in the clouds.... The second term I voted for him based on his "zero tolerance" for terrorists and their sponsors. How quickly times have changed. He is now pandering to each and every thug/dictator that pops his ugly head up. Bush has turned his back on Israel (or was this always his position, and I just didn't see it?) by championing Arafat's # 1 henchman, and the architect of the "phased plan". If I were a dictator, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over Bush's swagger, and I certainly wouldn't be afraid of Sharon, the biggest.....paper tiger of all!
