1. T'G for being a Jew (the article brings this out even more)
Lenny ,   USA   (09.25.05)
May he be blessed, and may we very soon merit the resurrection of the dead with the true and complete Redemption. May all Jews be inscribed for a good and sweet year, with health and happiness both in physical needs and in spiritual aspects, and may we enter this new year with a true unity and Achdut, with the Moshiach!
2. Kol Ha Koved to Ynet
Abber ,   Israel   (09.25.05)
Good for you for following up on this! I still can not believe that they did not attend. How is it - that I knew when the funeral was and Limor Livnat didn't. Just disgusting!!!!

4. who cares?
Natan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.25.05)
What difference does it make to Wiesenthal's memory that a Deputy Minister (who, incidentally, had close personal relations with Wiesenthal) attended the funeral instead of a Minister? Is the job of Ministers and Deputy Ministers to attend funerals? The real question Ynet should ask is, why are there so many ministries and ministers, with portfolios and without, deputy ministers and even a vice premier? Can't all these tasks be handled by 8-10 people?
5. A Shamed and Disgusted
S Jacob ,   UK   (09.25.05)
Never in my life have I been so a shamed and disgusted with those who purport to represent the State of Israel. It is shocking that various Ministers were able to be in Germany representing the State whilst at the same time, only one Minister was able to find the time and pay his respect to a man who spent his whole adult life seeking justice for the 6 million Jews that died. It clearly demonstrates just how selfish, inconsiderate and ignorant Israeli polititicians have become. Well done - you have just proven to the world just what a bunch of ******** you really are.

8. Where was the government representatives?
Ed ,   Pittsburgh, USA   (09.25.05)
I think the answer is simple.....members of a government that expel Jews from their homes, that bring about the destruction of synagogues....are not the sort of people that go to the funeral of a man dedicated to tracking down and bringing to justice people who expel Jews from their homes nad bring about the destruction of synagogues. It's not that complicated....but it does tell you what the Israeli government is all about.
9. Yes,who cares?
gil ,   a   (09.25.05)
Better for Wiesenthal's soul to travel alone than with false blessings .But we have not to worry about unconcerned ministers and leaders:soon we shall host the Clinton's .And even with a fully-booked agenda, our right and left will race to attend.

14. Re. #12
Lenny ,   USA   (09.26.05)
In Judaism, evil is labelled as evil, and dealt with according to that. There is no blurring of right and wrong, and of good and bad; it is absolute. Since that is the case, when Evil is identified, it is obligatory to eradicate it completely and fully. In truth, though, one can look at common sense and come to the same conclusion: if you dont truly despise and actively try to eradicate that which is bad, G-d forbid the bad would grow and get stronger, and ultimately bring great harm to many innocents. It is a *good* deed to actively pursue and eradicate that which is bad. It is *not a good* thing to simply accept evil and live with it. If one were to do this, they are in effect validating its right to exist, and its perspective in the world. Mr. Wiesenthal stood up after great torture and extreme circumstances, and actively and with determination took the initiative to punish and find those who carried out the crimes. He believed in the victory of good over bad, and ultimately, the victory of humanity and the G-dly soul, over the animal tendencies. This is why his work and example to others is important: what he did is a reminder and an encouragement to those who wish to live with ideals of good and justice. It is a concept and a reality which is very needed today- to be able to stand up for what is right, and not be affected by either a terrible past, or that which apparently tries to block the direction of justice. It is important to realize how 'compassion without reserve' is in fact not a good thing, unless it is directed in the right way. In this case, his compassion was very present for those who were killed and tortured by the Nazis, Y'S. To not have pursued this with determination would have been the opposite of compassion and goodness- it would be giving life and existence to that which wishes to destroy life. May we truly never have to witness or hear of such things again in this world. And may his direction and soul be an influence for many to learn from. May the Jewish people be inscribed for a good and sweet year in everything- and in a truly open and revealed way.
