Yay, Abbas said something, for all thje good that will do. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Only time will tell if Abbas can actually put words into practice, although I remain skeptical. He is only having them kept out of site, not taken away from those who shouldnt have them. As such, the armed militia's remain just that...armed, able to strike at will. So much for a single security entity for Palestinians. Talk is cheap, Abbas....make it a reality and gain some credibility.

What is very disturbing about the US position is that they know full well that the violence in the PA/PLO controlled territories is INCREASING, and not the opposite. The US is to partly blame as to why the PA/PLO doesn't disarm the terror groups. The Arabist State Dept via Bush's spokespeople praise ! Abbas/Mazen no matter what he does. Therefore, what incentive does Abbas have to confront his like minded "brethren", if even the mighty US doesn't crack down on the PA/PLO rhetoric? This disengenous US position breathes life into PA/Hamas dreams that one day Israel will be brought to its knees. It is this duplicitous attitude of the US adminstration (and other US ones) that leads me to conclude that they are not quite the friend to Israel that they claim to be.

Yeah sure what crack down? No mention of confiscating of arms merely of putting them in storage to be taken out when the Israeli least expect it so they can do the most killing. They don;t fool me but they apparently fool the American administration because they differentiate between what is a terrorist. They don't even want to see that the suicide bombers in Iraq learned from their cousins the Palestinians and that many indeed are transported Palestinians. As long as the Palestinians kill mainly Jews, the American administration will turn a blind eye. After all Bush must keep his Saudi budies happy.
