2. they're right - the food does suck
roxanne ,   Modiin, Israel   (10.04.05)
whew! so glad it's not just me complaining about the crappy chinese food.
3. what a load of crap
Frieda ,   Holland   (10.05.05)
So you don't like the extra special no holes bared security of El Al I hear. (no other airline on the planet has such depth of security but I guess that does not matter. You don't like the food- And you have to pay a security fee. I would like direct proof of this and if it is true, why? Do they have to pay this in other countries as well? YNET, is this true or false? worth finding out don't you think? China, I would assume this is just your short list?? So you will just not come unless Israel cow tows to your temper tantrums? What, you have gotten coaching from the palestinians? They as you know are the biggest throwers of temper tantrums. As if they think they are the Chinese, ha ha.
4. thai food is much better than chinese anyway
(10.05.05)
And if you go to TA youll get real Thai people making it for you (just dont expect them to speak any english or ivrit
5. they're right - we do mistreat Chinese tourists.
(10.05.05)
6. Chinese Tourists
Hans ,   Munich, Germany   (10.05.05)
Hmm, strange. Humiliating ElAl officials? I just travelled with ElAl and they were more polite than many other airline guys and girls I met in recent times. Better Chinese food? Come on, you visit Israel, eat Israeli food! Please, Israel, be careful, tourists are vital but don't think about becoming a second Spain or Thailand where the country has been sold to tourists. Greetings from Germany
7. Hans Problem is that Israelis see Chinese as Foreign Workers
(10.05.05)
8. Hans Chinese are treated here like u treat Turks there
(10.05.05)
9. Turks in Germany?
(10.06.05)
The turks in Germany are treated well. The problem is, who these Turks are. They are 50th generation of illiterate peasants from anatolic shore, intermarry since generations (german kid docs see live illnesses others knows from books only) and failed to mingle in the society. Visit parts of inner cities in Germany and you'll think you're in Turkey. 3rd generation german Turks stop working, cannot express themselves in german nor turkish. Chinese sure have problems, but they work as mad and do not keep their kids illiterate. Humiliation by ElAl? Boyz, u go to US, there you will learn what this is.
10. Tourists vs. Foreign Workers
Hans Schmitz ,   Munich, Germany   (10.06.05)
I think this is not the same: Of course foreign workers ate not well treated in many places. Though, I do not think that the Turkish people in Germany are so bad off. But as a tourist, you have to respect the country you are travelling to. If I am in Israel I respect that on Shabbat there might be no freshly cooked food. In China, I would respect that I do not get my favourite food. And then: The Chinese tourists coming abroad are not the ones who work for 100$ 12 hours a day to manufacture all the stuff that we buy. Its the ones who let the others work. And to then go and demand better Chinese food to come is like asking your host to change his skin color to accomodate you, its bold.
11. Not only the chinese food
Inyaki ,   Bilbao, Basque   (10.06.05)
The chinese shouldn't be ofended, it is not that especially chinese restaurants are horrible in Israel- most of the restaurants are not good. A good restaurant there is as an exception., as a bad one in Bizkaia. But the Israelies are more into spiritual food rather than to real one. It is a national defect. One should be honest about it. How do I solve this problem?: never go to a restaurant when in Israel.
12. Not Surprised at all ...
hiram ,   tel aviv   (10.06.05)
I am certainly not surprised at the story about the deposit...Typical israeli suspicion at " whatever is foreign but not american " It demonstrate definately a lack of politico-social maturity. Israeli ministries in charge of toursim must put an end to racial or ethnic dicrimination in addition to exercising a better control on price rip-off towards tourists ! ANd I know what I am talking about...I live here !
13. A matter of taste
Hans ,   Munich, Germany   (10.06.05)
So all is relative. A couple of weeks ago I had every day excellent food while in Israel, from a simple Hamburger to a haute cuisine fish restaurant in TA. Cheaper than in Munich as well. Just watch out, read reviews and enjoy.
14. Chinese food
Yonatan ,   Knoxville, USA   (10.06.05)
I was too busy stuffing my face with Falafels when I was in Haifa to worry about Chinese food LOL!
15. How about local 'gastronomy'?!
TimTam ,   Jerusalem   (10.06.05)
Chinese food here is pretty yucky that's a fact, it works with almost every 'exported' gastronomy! But why eat Chinese here? How about local food? The food we know how to make!
16. Chinese Foreign workers
Tzu ,   Los Angeles, USA   (10.06.05)
I think Israeli government should give $3000 to each Chinese visitor to prompt more Chinese migrant workers in Israel, just think if you replace all the Palestinian works with Chinese workers you may see less street bombings in Israel.
17. Tzu
Hans   (10.07.05)
Though the mix of our culinary discussion with the Palestinian terror issue is a bit awkward, you are probably right. As unlikely it is, but then don't complain about the food anymore and open also some restaurants :-)
18. hahahaha so true
yiftah ,   israel   (10.07.05)
It's mainly because most of the chinese restaurants here are kosher. however, there are some good places, like in ramle and herzilya pituah.
19. To Yiftah
NYC Girl   (10.07.05)
There are plenty of Chinese restaurants in Tel Aviv that aren't kosher because they're owned by former Vietnamese refugees, who, as you probably know, were brought to Israel after the surrounding Arab countries refused to take them in. Maybe the tourists in question didn't know the right place to go, but I'm from NYC where we're all "experts" on Chinese food and I wasn't disappointed. Also, to those of you who think Israeli food is so terrible, you're about 20 years behind the times. At one time, Israeli food was second only to English food for being lousy, but those days are long gone.
20. why eat chinese food here
(10.07.05)
why go to israel to eat chinese food? Try the local cuisine which is wonderful no comparison to the shit they feed you in Europe
21. Chinease / Israeli Resturants
Joel Miller ,   Israel   (10.08.05)
When did Israel ever know how to treat tourists? Just look at how it treats it's own elderly, handicapped, Natural environment, Animal population and what equal rights women have in the work force and you will begin to understand that Israel is mostly interested in Money, positions of power and are not willing to work for it in return. The health Ministry does a fowel job at keeping all resturants clean and the government all togethor is busy with phornicating the hard working citizens so what are a couple of Chinease tourist's appetites to Israel?
22. ElAl does mistreat many tourists
Center   (10.09.05)
I would never fly El Al. Basic dignity of human beings they find hard to grasp at times
23. Come for the local cuisine!
Shlomit ,   Israel   (10.09.05)
Everybody! Come for the wonderful diverse and delicious Israeli food! We're not big on Chinese food, but we're grrrreat on our own food. Enjoy!!
24. To Joel Miller
(10.09.05)
I'm not certain how so benign a subject as Chinese food turned into a diatribe against everything Israeli, but I would assume you're not being held in the country against your will.
25. Kung Pao Collie
Lassie ,   Washington, DC U.S.   (10.10.05)
As a dog that used to live in Israel, I am so pleased that the dog- and cat-eating Chinese don't like the Chinese restaurants in Israel. As we all know, dogs are not kosher and Sweet & Sour dog, Kung Pao Collie, and other Chinese specialities are unavailable in the Holy Land.
26. Re: #11
Michelle ,   Israel   (10.11.05)
With all due respect, you are dead wrong about Israeli food. Obviously, you have not been told about nor taken to the right restaurants. There are some excellent restaurants in Israel. I have been to some crappy restaurants in Spain and in the Basque country and have also been to some very good ones.
27. To #24 regarding #24
Joel Miller ,   Israel   (10.11.05)
You wrote: I'm not certain how so benign a subject as Chinese food turned into a diatribe against everything Israeli, My reply: You are not sure? where do you bury your head from reality? The subject is about Israel and the way Israel treats others.. not Chinease food. You wrote: I would assume you're not being held in the country against your will. My reply; You haven't learned yet however late in life not to assume anything? Weren't you taught this as a child that nothing is certain and never to assume anything? I am held in Israel by government policy and limited by their corruption, you choose to hide your idenity rather than be confident in yourself, yelling out from behind a rock and a hard place exposes your hit and run verbal tactics...very weak on your part. I am exercising my legal right to express my opinion based on my experiences in the hope that caring daring opinion will help to better Israel and the way it treats all, then sitting down for a serious Chinease meal would be a pleasure well shared by millions. Happy new year anyway. Joel
28. Joel Miller's opinion
Sarah Winthrup ,   Seattle washington   (10.12.05)
Congrads Joel you hit the nail on the head so why educate the weak minded fool that fears being exposed? Obviousy you care alot about Israel to share a heart felt opinion, are you there long? Tourism is Israel's face before the nations, if the food is bad then why venture onward. Isn't the Chinease food prepared by the Chinease workers in Israel?
29. @ Shlomit (reply n.23) There is no such thing as "our" food
Moshik Afia ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.12.05)
Israel is a mixture of many cultures and nations, the only food that we might consider "ours" is Falafel which as u might know originially comes from syria & egypt.
30. #28 and Joel
Michelle Kemp ,   Israel   (10.12.05)
Sarah, Have you every been to Israel? The food is very good here. Maybe we need to work on our Chinese food, but other food is very good. As to the reference about Chinese workers preparing food, can all black people dance and play basketball?! Joel, if you are so unhappy here, then get off your bum and do something about it or move to another country that will make you happier.
