The Magen David is a symbol of one of the world's great religions. Mr. Telhaug has every right to exercize his affirmative and healthy religious views, which include respect for Judaism and which are not aimed at hurting anyone. Would these idiots ban the crescent or the cross? The most inflamed conflicts in the world are actually between Sunni Arab extremists and non-Sunnis in both Iraq and Sudan; the body count in either conflict this year alone DWARFS the body count on both sides during 5 years of intifadah, and nobody is talking about banning "the Crusaders'" crosses or the crescents of genocidal Sudanese Muslim Arab militias who committed such heinous acts in the Darfur region. (Lest you get the wrong idea, I don't think the cross or the crescent should be banned either, nor do I believe that all Muslims or all Christians are bad; they aren't) The best thing that ANY school can do for kids from conflict zones is to teach these kids that in a civilized country, people of all religions and races can live, work and play together in peace and respect. The *very* best thing they could do would be to introduce these kids to friendly Jewish kids, because it would destroy the disgusting, racist stereotypes taught by Arab schools and start to heal a lot of the psychological damage of living through violent times. The claim that a Magen David offends Muslims is nothing more than obscene anti-Semitic nonsense. It is a tactic whose ultimate intent is to create a climate of fear among Jews. There is a concerted effort to do this; it is ongoing in various other countries as well. It must be vigorously opposed, and it must be exposed for what it is. Members of other religions, including Muslims, must stand up in support of Mr. Telhaug; once you ban a Magen David for "offending" Muslims, then what is to prevent them from banning head-scarves to avoid "offending" feminists, eh?

Not that I support the ban by any means, but it's pretty much the same in Israel when it comes to porkers. Many childrens books about farms leave out that animal, and it isn't for the sake of the Moslems. Also, I've seen children's school books where the little girls wear only dresses, no pants, the women teachers are drawn with long sleeves, and all the little boys are wearing baseball or gimmee caps.
