Steve ,   Atlanta   (10.18.05)
The murder of Sadat was a "small attack" comaratively speaking. The Egyptians should just get over it. And why do we need a big international investigation about Harari. That was just a "small attack." And when the terrorists shot the Pope, that was just a "small attack." The Arabs and Europeans always have some reason to excuse murder when the victims are Israeli.
32. didn’t say they deserve to die
Egyptain ,   Egypt   (10.18.05)
The ambassador didn’t say they deserve to die. He just said that one attack can not kill the whole peace process. No body in Egypt has any intention to attack or threaten your existence. But it seems some of you have bad intention toward our country. The devastating killing of innocent people on both sides is unacceptable under any standards. But there is no magic switch that can stop this killing. So stop blaming every body and try to reach a peace deal that will stop this blood shed. Your IDF killed three Egyptian soldiers on the border and your army spokesman said it a “small incident” and IDF regret it. As a civilized people we took your word and we didn’t shout for revenge. Also, the IDF is conducting killing campaign against Palestinians group leaders. They will not sit down and watch the killing. The peace is the only way out from this cycle. For the victims, I wish their souls rest in peace.

"If our people had one tenth of the courage and the dignity that the Palestinians have...." Whoa, wait a minute. The Jews are an honorable and courageous people.
34. If it was the Egyptian Ambassador's children...
MED ,   USA   (10.18.05)
that were murdered by the 'Palestinian' savages, would it have been a "small attack"? If he is so sympathetic towards his 'Palestinian' Arab brethren who were eager to visit with their relatives on the Egyptian side of the border, why doesn't his govt. absorb these savages into their own country and let Israel live in peace in the land of their ancestors? Gaza, Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem, belongs to Israel and NOT the Arab squatters.
35. positive signs?
yehu ben zohar ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.18.05)
What positive signs? Israel makes concessions, the Arabs make excuses and murder Jews This is progress? Arabs died in 1973 in an uprovoked war on Israel's holiest day. Abbas makes promises to the useful idiots like Anwar and the left, knowing full well he has no intention of keeping his word. What part of "death to the Jews" do you left wing fools not understand?
36. background
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (10.18.05)
The impression I get of Abmassador Ibrahim is as follows: * He is not outright hostile toward Israelis but is not a strong friend of Israel either. * He thinks that he understands Israelis and Israeli society quite well. * He understands some of the superficial aspects, but has awkward "blind spots" that will get him into trouble. * He thinks of himself as an enlightened and civilized person, a diplomat and a supporter of the peace process. * He's clearly a diplomat, and some of this interview clearly shows that he's an ambassador doing what ambassadors often do when asked tough questions. The man has been ambassador to several Islamic countries e.g. Sudan, but never to an open society such as Israel. On the other hand, he apparently came out of retirement to accept this post. This man commented that he felt he was "among friends" when he broke the fast at an annual banquet given by the Israeli foreign ministry. For an Arab diplomat that is relatively strong language. In a recent article in a Lebanese English paper in which he tried to explain Israeli reactions (he did attempt to make Israelis seem human and did not depict Israelis as evil) he talked about Israel's need for security, and recounted some of his own experiences (being challenged at a checkpoint, seeing cafes where there are security guards), and appeared to try to empathize with that need for security. I think I will avoid criticizing Mr. Ibrahim too harshly for the awkward way in which he responded to the terror attack, and will rather wait to see how his ambassadorship develops. His words are not bad; one hopes that Egypt will follow them with deeds that reflect TRUE friendship, such as cleaning up the bigotry and hatred and incitement in his own country's media. That would be a very good sign.

Yes,anwar,Egypt and Israel's neighbours had lost all the wars they launched with the clear purpose to "throw these pigs and dogs" into the sea,and they will never start conventional wars expecting new defeat and humiliation. Unfortunately, they have never given up their will to erase Israel from the map using arab terrorism and propaganda as alternative mean to declared war,,never accepting to formally recognize Israel. As for Egypt, covert supply of deadly weapons ,hatred spilled in medias and cartoons,is enough proof peace is not really the wish of your countrymen.

world. Thanks YNET for printing this story. You would never see this in Ha'aretz. They are big fans of egypt even when they turn a blind eye to weapons smuggling which kills Jews. Even when Egypt's ambassador to Israel makes horrible statements.

I am glad you understand the word justice or do you?......... since you are looking for justice for 3 or 4 people that were killed by people who are hiding and no one nose them ----tell me where is the justice for more then 4000 Palestinians killed and more then 50,000 injured ( the majority of them are children ) by a government an elected government. And you never no may be these 3 or 4 that were killed have voted to elect that government that is resbonsabile for all these killings

PALESTINIAN ,   WEST BANK   (10.18.05)
YNET EDITORS INCITE HATRED. YOU CAN REALLY TELL FROM THE WAY THEY TELL THEIR STORIES.
41. Prepetual Criticism - Read the Entire Interview
Critic   (10.18.05)
Reading the comments made by the readers, one realizes that there exists a reply by the Egyptian Ambassador to this wave of criticism imbedded, ironically, in the interview itself, as he stated: "There is always criticism in Israel and there is always a lack of satisfaction. The nation in Israel is critical in a constant way, it criticizes itself, its government, and its press. The Israeli people thinks dynamically, it searches for mistakes and its mind works...and this doesn’t bother me". Most of the comments revolve around the word “small” with a pursuit to divorce it from the entire context of the Ambassador’s statements. He believes and clearly states that violence is of no use and that the recent attack was a “big mistake”. The value of one single life is as great as one hundred, yet the determination to continue the peace process is greater than any obstacle faced by either side. Therefore, reading the interview in FULL can only show that he expressed his view that the momentum of the entire process is much greater than to be halted by any event. This in no way dishonors the victims – on the contrary, it reassures all of the commitment to peace, and the refusal to surrender the peace process to anyone who dares to derail it. Surely, many around the world share the rational views that were uttered by the Ambassador of Egypt.
42. to Palestinian West Bank
Marcia ,   New Haven   (10.18.05)
You say YNET incites hate. Allow me to educate you. Unlike the Palestinian Authority who solely incites hate against the West, Jews and Israel on a 24/7 basis, in publications in the West and Israel you see all sides published. Even if you don't like one view you can read another. You have your nerve. Who is calling the kettle black? You and your fellow Arab/Islamists only ever get one side and it is bad. Really bad. What you read in your text books, hear in your Mosques, read in your papers, etc., is nothing but hate filled propagandized brainwashing. But wait, what is this story from the PA on Israel causing Aids in the PA? http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3156094,00.html I think you better take a visit to www.memri.org to see for yourself. In the mean time understand that with freedom comes truth. In a real democracy not a phony one a person can read all sides and decide from themselves. Next time you make such a silly statement, think before your terrorist loving hate filled bigoted fingertips hit the keyboard.
43. To Egyptian
AK   (10.18.05)
It is totally amazing and quite educational to see the responses from your world after your acts of violence; it is like listening to a very young child or a sociopath -- you have no sense of right and wrong. Yes, people die in a war and there are border incidents, but then there are deliberate acts of murder and those are, with one or two exceptions, committed entirely by Arabs against the Israelis. this case of the deliberate targeting of children, young people and women , whether at the bus stop, attacking cars on roads or rocket attacks against cities, was not an isolated incident -- there were numerous, daily attacks and the fact that there were no daily casualties (although there were casualties) was a) luck, b) many preventive measures taken by Israelis. Get it through your head, there is no cycle of violence, there is ONLY Arab violence and occasional and largely symbolic Israeli responses to that violence. I know that our Western press is complicit in spreading your little tale of “circle of violence” but only willfully dim or secretly anti-Semitic are actually buying it. Your Ambassador’s foot-in –the-mouth incident is due to a fact that the Egyptians consider the death of a dhimmi Jews as totally insignificant and you actually feel aggrieved when the Jews dare to strike back or even to complain. For once, tried to apply the principle of not doing to others what you would not like to be done to you and those dear to you and think, what you would have done, or want your government to do, if you were the parent, spouse or sibling of those Israeli victims. Would you still call their murder an insignificant incident?
44. Yehu Ben Zohar and AK
Anwar ,   Cairo, Egypt   (10.18.05)
The positive signs are not the words that come out of politicians mouths. Lately, there have been concrete actions between Israel and Egypt that, hopefully, will lead to real peace. Two good examples are the 1) natural gas deal and 2) the Qualified Industrial Zones being built here in Egypt. By cementing economic ties and promoting business exchanges, you get the beginnings of communication. In a few years, we will get interdependence - so how can we want to harm you when we depend on you for our economic well-being and vice versa. This is what I consider positive signs. As for the weopon smuggling; your soldiers couldn't stop it, so why should it be easy for us? Your IDF is infinitely better trained and equipped than our border guard. This is not to mention better paid. Can you imagine the money to be made by turning a blind eye? I don't know this for a fact, but I am sure it might be tempting for people making much less than $50 a month. Finally, in terms of wasting your tax payer dollars AK, I would really prefer you keep them. The US has effectively crippled Egypt with this AID. By creating a 'easy-money' culture for the government, the Egyptian people have learned to subsist at the lowest of levels. It has created a welfare state - and we're the ones on welfare. As long as there is food on the table, all is well! No economic reforms were necessary and the government became less accountable to its people. Please, AK do us the favor of keeping your money!

There is nothing rational about slaughtering 3 innocent people. They did nothing to deserve it, nothing. The ambassador from Egypt is full of crap. He was wrong in what he said. Period. Nothing else he said to soften his heartless statement made a bit of difference. To turn the victimizer into the victim is an age old trick. To ask the victims to forgive or look the other way is older than dirt. Just forget it you ask? Bull. To ask Jews to forgive and forget thoroughly cold blooded tasteless statements has been around forever as well. To rationalize for those statements put you in bed with those who made them. You have it all ass backwards. You need to understand me not the other way around.
46. Gil
Anwar ,   Cairo, Egypt   (10.18.05)
I never said peace was the wish of our country men. ALL I said is that no one expects Israel to be going anywhere soon. Don't forget that the majority of people in this country don't remember a time when there was no Israel - that generation is pretty much the same age as Yasser Arafat and on their way out too. Don't assume that the old war cries - that are also Jewish propoganda as much as they are Arab - of Arabs wanting to throw Israel into the sea still exist. And if they do, nobody except the fringe Islamo-fanatics really believes them. However, on a personal note, I really DO wish that peace was what everyone in this country wanted.

Egyptain ,   Egypt   (10.18.05)
As usual you just took one word out of context and play with it. The three soldier’s example was the show the same word “small incident” not to compare with the current Attack. The relation between the two countries can not go through all of this crap. Egyptians do not consider the death of a Jews as totally insignificant and we value the human life. We are not part of this incident, and I have an advice to ambassador, don’t speak to the Jews public all over the world. Most of the harsh comments are from people outside Israel. The only objective of these people is not for the seek of three innocent lives but just how to use this incident to stop the whole peace process. And stop this blaming game.

One may ask if Palestinians have had to live under this "brutal Israeli occupation" then why hasn't Jordan taken them in and made them citizens?
49. Anwar
AK   (10.18.05)
I will concede the “positive signs” if and when there will be no more Egyptian television programs vilifying Jews, like the latest based on the “Protocols of Zion”, when you stop teaching your children that Jews are pigs and it says so in the Koran; when your influential religious leaders stop preaching that Jews are evil and the obligation of a good Muslim is to kill them; when you acknowledge that Jews have every right to their land and country, Israel, without any reservations, not only now, but in perpetuity (we’re by now familiar with your concept of hudna); when you will unconditionally condemn AND fight (words alone are cheap) acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens, that includes condemnation of HAMAS, and ALL other terror groups. Anything short of the outlined above is meaningless and willfully misleading. AND please feel free to return all the money we send you, if you choose to grandstand.

You are right in that there is an excess of anti-Jewish propoganda and rhetoric in Egypt. It is unfortunate and ugly. But what you say is a bit exaggerated. It really isn't that bad, and the ones that speak of Jews badly do the same for Christians - which happen to be about 10 percent of our population (and are the purest blooded Egyptians). There is a lot of hate here to be sure. My question to you is how is the religious hatred spewed here different from some of the radical and less than radical Rabbis in Israel or even the Evangelical Christians in the States? I don't think that it is that different. The only difference here is that we have a population that is not very well educated and, therefore, more vulnerable to propaganda. As for me returning the money - I wish I could. It is used to buy shiny, brand-spanking-new F-16s and US built tanks. A proposal by some US congressmen to turn the military grants into civilian aid was promptly struck down by US lawmakers! After all, we have to help the poor defense contractors in the States too. The stuff that is left over is used to buy US wheat and to import sugar to 'sugar-up' and pacify the poorest of the poor. You guys get your money recycled back to you, the poor Egyptians get their empty calories, and everyone is lovey-dovey and happy. No grand standing here buddy, just reality as it hits the streets - not as it seems from thousands of miles away in your comfy US of A.

dude, israel didnt begin all that. it was the palestinians. how do you describe the current situation? israel gives u gaza back and what do we get in return? kasam rockets, murder and more hatred. you have to ask yourself where your nation's psychological problem lies. peace comes by pieces. we start giving a finger and you want the whole hand. dont write back here until you saw this movie here, and then tell me the truth how stupid your nation is, aight? enjoy: http://seconddraft.org/streaming/pallywood.wmv

oh and as we talk about injuring and killing children... since there was an attack by a palestinian child (10y old) with 2kg c4 in bag - on a israeli convoy driving back from gaza to israel killing 8 soldiers, they understood that palestinians dont know ethical limit. the even put children and women to the fronts making suicide (this is how u value life? kill yourself and other innocent people?) and arm them with weapons. hello, we are talking about CHILDREN, how can u take responsibility for that?? this aint the israelis killing your nation, its your nation which just dont get right with the truth. look at the big picture! 95% of all terror attacks on this world are made my MUSLIMS... do you understand me? its your damn culture which doesnt get right with the rest... your nation's personality is "always being the victim"! did u watch the video yet? dude, you realy make me laugh about you...
57. The Main Difference
N.S. ,   Long Island, NY   (10.20.05)
Despite the fact that I support the all efforts towards peace, when people ask me in America what really is the difference between the Arabs and Israelis all I will have to do is point to this interview with the Egyptian ambassador to Israel. His total disregard of the terrible loss of life in Israel can be traced to the lack of respect people in Arab countries have towards others who are non Arab and non Muslim. Until that mentality changes nothing will really move forward in the Middle East.
58. Guys, you need a chill pill...
John Blackley ,   New York, USA   (10.20.05)
Well, I must say that after reading most of the comments in this section, it feels really disheartening to see that there is so much hatred floating around that makes for a real dialogue almost impossible. Everyone that is dissing the Ambassador really needs to swallow a chill pill...guys the world did not start or end with this article in Ynet...what you should really put to question is not history, nor diplomacy, nor the comment made by the Egyptian ambassador in this article; perhaps what is really enlightening is how you're all reaction to 6 words in an entire article that was meant to serve as a dialogue across cutlures and ended up being broken into small components that are scruninized with points that really don't seem to hit the nail on the head! I haven't read a single comment on this board except for one that asks any of the readers to enquire into a deeper meaning of this article. Could the reporter have exaggerated the facts? was the comment miscontrued? are the arguments presented in this board really useful or simply restating points of views that are really personal and don't transcend cultures? PS: this was from journalism 101 by the way... It saddens me that the readers posting comments that dig deeper into the wrong meaning of this artcile are blinded by the fact that you are not helping create a dialogue in any way but rather advocating your points with blind intentions. I ask not that you consider this message for yourselves, but rather consider going deeper in reading between the lines and help in creating a dialogue where rationality rather than ignorance prevails. Do you it for your sake and for those who truly want to live in peace!

One might also ask if Israelis have had to live under this "barberic Palestinian Terror" then why hasn't the US and other countries in Europe taken them to live there?... Palestine was and still is the Palestinians homeland and I doubt that any one of them will be willing to move to Jordan....
60. #59 great news
Yakir ,   Switzerland   (10.20.05)
let's go back to the history again: do you know where the palestinians come from? there was an investigation i saw on cnn, they were explaining where the palestinians come from and how they got to palestine. Actually i was shocked hearing it, but satisfied! they said that the root comes from all arab-countries around. arabs who were ejaculated because of crime, rape and murder withing the arab nation. they were ejected to that one place palestine. i think u might find the article on the cnn website i guess. i guess i understand now why nobody wants to know anything about palestine or even help them. id realy like to give you more details but this is what i remember (the most important) from this study yesterday on cnn. so let's just say, we are dealing with "the last arab-dirt" if you want me to say it directly. now these who disagree, don't write me back on this, i dont care what u think. fact is fact. just look for the article in cnn.com, aight.
