1. IDF STAY & DEFEND ISRAEL FROM TERRORISTS!
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (11.08.05)
World leaders at the UN congratulated Sharon who used the IDF to ruthlessly make 10,000 Jews jobless and homeless. In a cruel and sadistic act, Jews are forced to pay for the mortgages on their destroyed homes. U.N. peacekeepers have a very bad reputation of committing abuse and atrocities on the people they are supposed to protect. U.N. peacekeepers on the border with Israel/Lebanon allowed, and cooperated in the kidnapping of IDF soldiers by terrorists. These IDF soldiers were subsequently murdered. What horrible things would happen to IDF soldiers if they were to join UN peacekeepers, where Jews are so hated? IDF HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE UN! IDF, every single one of you are urgently needed to protect your brothers and sisters in Israel!
2. HAHAHA
Salameh ,   Gaza, Palestine   (11.08.05)
Israeli Occupation Army as a peacekeeper ?? hahah now that is funny :-)
3. U.N. wants Israeli peacekeepers
Gandolf ,   Canada   (11.08.05)
No Israel should stay out of the UN peacekeeping forces easy targets far away from home , not to forget the indian Peacekeepers In Lebenon who watched as the arabs setr a trap and 3 israelis where killed .. Salameh if it where not for the UN this so called occupation would have been over long ago... They saved the arabs 5 times , maybe the UN wont save you guys on the 6 th... The Palestinians owe everything to the UN
4. Be Careful
J K ,   NYC, USA   (11.08.05)
If I were Israel and I agreed to do this, I would not be sending over the creme de la creme cutting edge equipment to some of these locations. Forgetting that fact that some of these U.N. soldiers would be happy to send back technologies that Israel worked hard on so they could be reverse engineered, its not good policy to send your troops to work with child and woman rapists and soliders who stand by while people die (the UN monitors in the Golan Heights who watched 3 IDF soliders get abducted and later killed and did nothingm and then the UN denied knowledge for 9 months and did everything they could to refuse help for the families affeacted). They might want to think 2x before contributing too much.
5. Seriously!
NO!   (11.08.05)
This has to be one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard of. The soldiers of the IDF belong exactly where they are, protecting Israel from the terrorists neighbors. This kind of mistake would be incredibly stupid considering that the IDF is complaining about manpower shortages. Why the hell would they increase the problem by sending these men to the middle of no where.
6. Now this is staggering!!!! #1 & #2 agree!?
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (11.08.05)
*laughs* I never thought I would EVER see Linda and Salameh agree on ANYTHING for ANY reason. I guess it took the UN to bring Linda and Salameh together. So the UN really is a force for peace in the world. ** dies laughing ** Seriously -- Israel sell the poorly disciplined UN peacekeeping forces night vision equipment? I don't think so.
7. TELL THEM TO PULL THEIR TROOPS OUT OF ISRAEL
(11.08.05)
8. Is it Purim already?
Aaron Simon ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.08.05)
I never thought I would see the day when the U.N. asked Israel to play a peace-keeping role by using the army. Is it Purim already?
9. Thanks for the offer but no
Efi   (11.08.05)
we have enough to deal with here
10. To salameh ,Gaza HAHAHA2
trumpeldor ,   eurabia in flames   (11.08.05)
You right It to would be better to send your green hooded killers as "peacekeepers" You do love peace so much...
11. Salami from Gaza-Land of Israel
Uzziel   (11.08.05)
We are going to join occupying countries like Syria, Jordan , Sudan, Morocco or Egypt. The countries of origin of the arab settlers in Israel.
12. Look out Salameh, reality....
Dan ,   Nashville, TN   (11.08.05)
is closing in fast. The IDF is being recognized for what it is. Still I can't see Jewish soldiers dying in far away places for countries that don't recognize the Jewish state or Jerusalem as its capital. In my humble outsider's opinion, Israel should get much more in return than just selling some equipment to the UN. It should demand equality among nations and Jersualem as its capital in exchange for its fine young men and women.
13. UN likes the IDF
Christina Guzman ,   Bronx, NY   (11.08.05)
After the UN saw by way of the disengagement that the IDF can act just as anti-Semetic as any other good-standing Jew-hating member of the UN, it figured, "hey, why not?"
14. IDF Manpower.
Bill Pearlman ,   Chicago, USA   (11.08.05)
Obviously the IDF has more men than they know what to do with. They must be overcome with excess troops to even consider an insane idea like this.
15. Tell the UN...
Oleh ,   Tel Aviv   (11.08.05)
... to go to HELL!
16. UN Forces
Rick S. ,   Los Angeles, USA   (11.08.05)
The US "Peacekeeping Forces" are as useless as the UN itself. These forces never created peace or kept peace. The UN just wants to see good Israeli soldiers die on foreign soil for no good reason. Also, any advanced technology that the UN will buy from Israel will fall into the hands of Israel's enemies. I think this is a no win situation for Israel.
17. You're all pretty dumb
David ,   United States   (11.09.05)
I am still not sure about my opinion on this, but some of the stuff spewed here is pretty ridiculous. 1."It's too much a draw on the IDF, they need to be protecting us from terrorists." The IDF is the most powerful army in the middle east. Manpower has not been the problem in combating terrorism, and five years of the intifada have revealed small, focused missions like targeted killings to be more affective then troop call ups. In any case, sending a nominal number of troops to the UN is NOT going to cripple them. 2. "Screw the U.N!" I don't think any supporter of Israel is in love with the U.N., but no smart supporter thinks we can just piss in the U.N.'s corn flakes and not expect problems. Israel tried that for many years, it didn't work. We learned that the U.N. can twist the Americans' arms, who can then twist the IDF's arm behind its back. Wouldn't it be worth a small number of troops to get a foothold in this organization and nuetralize it as a political threat to Israel's security? 3. The U.N. likes Israel because it showed it can be "anti-semites." It's a testement to how much people have forgotten the lessons of the Holocaust that people deign to call the disengagement anti-semitism. You can dissaprove of the action, even hate it, hell, I might agree with you. But to call the IDF's masterful and sensitive operation "anti-semitic" is a slander to not only those who bravely fight in the IDF, but also those who have dealt with actual anti-semitism. My qualms with Israel peacekeepers are the same as those I have with American peacekeepers. Namely, do we want to put the lives of our brothers at risk for something that is not entirely necessary for the protection of our people? Is it worth it? I'm not sure honestly. I will say though, that this IS the Zionist dream, to have a free democratic, nation that participates in the discourse of the world. Wherever these soldiers went, they would represent the State of Israel, and by extension, Am Yisrael. That's something to take pride in, not scoff at.
18. IDF in the UN ?
Hiram ,   tel aviv   (11.09.05)
This is a rare opportunity to enhance the image of the state of Israel. If offered 20 years ago, nobody would have believed it .. Israel must seize this opportunity without any doubts and let the riight-wingers and the zealots think otherwise. They have absolutely to weight in this .
19. Salemeh - Islam vs the Civilized World
R   (11.09.05)
Doesn't it strike you as odd that most of the peacekeepers are needed to act as a buffer between Muslims and the native population. The war is starting - Islam vs the Civilized World.
20. Good Idea!
Ariel ,   Canberra, Australia   (11.09.05)
Israel should agree to this if and only if: 1) Iran is thrown out of the UN 2) The UN recognises Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel 3) Israel is given a permanent seat at the UN Security Council I hope I live to see this day...
21. UN asks IDF for help? The end of the world is near, this is
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica, CA   (11.09.05)
positive proof, what more could you ask, a tiger to change it's spots? African soldiers raped women while on duty and were not prosecuted. You want the IDF to work with those people? UN are the initials for mashuganah in boogala boogala, the language of the people who live on the planet of bunge bunge.
22. is this a joke? and beware of the UN
joself   (11.09.05)
the same UN that turned a blind eye while hizballa kidnapped our soliders and then covered up the evidence?
23. IDF international peacekeeping?
AboArab ,   Dallas TX   (11.09.05)
send them to africa to kill more innocent Tutsis kids.
24. Israel offers medical assitance often
Ilan ,   Ariel   (11.09.05)
So why not through the UN? As for sending soldiers for other purposes...... That is another question.
25. An unmentioned bonus
David ,   United States   (11.09.05)
Everyone is talking about the risks the IDF would take in sending troops to be peacekeepers, but what about the military benefits? Namely, Israel would have pretense to have soldiers in hot spots all over the world, many of which, not incidently, are serious threats to Israel. Wouldn't this be a good set of eyes and ears at the very least? The same goes for within the U.N. peacekeeping force, which has never been good for Israel. Let's keep our enemies closer by placing our own among them.
26. Great, more targets for Islamic radicals
daniel ,   amsterdam   (11.09.05)
And when they get kidnapped or murdered, will the UN release the videotape? Then again.... Maybe the French could use some Israeli troops....
27. Hooked on READING?
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (11.09.05)
Come on guys read the first few lines! "The U.N. has specifically asked for Israeli military medical units equipped with helicopters to serve in one of these hotspots" don't we already send our rescue teams to these areas? and foot the bill! Now the IDF will get paid for the services! (and hell yes I'd want that extra pay after the the fact)! #'s 17 & 25 are also the only ones here that seem to be able to read the WHOLE THING!! This needs to be thought over by clear minds not twits!
28. Israeli peacekeepers
Hilda ,   US   (11.09.05)
If I were Israel, I would tread very carefully. I do not trust the UN/ It has never been a friend of Israel and this may just be a ruse to get its hands on Israel's military no how and a ruse to destabilize the IDF to keep them away from where they are really needed. This may be the Trojan horse to give the Arabs a win that eluded them til the UN intervenes.
29. to Hiram
Hilda ,   US   (11.09.05)
Don't fall for it. The UN is not Israel's friend. Israel needs the IDF for its own defense. It cannot afford to dissipate . The UN has not kept any peace. They have been at the back and call of the Arab countries. Remember how they ran away as soon as Nassar told them to . Remember how they saved the necks (and the other end of the anatomy) of the Arabs in every war with Israel And remember how they stood by and actually ran interference in their kidnapping Israelis. No I say hands off Israel.
30. to Ariel
Hilda ,   US   (11.09.05)
Your first two are necessary without any promises on Israel's part. Your #3 is impossible. Let them at least give Israel their rightful turn which they have withheld all these years. Do you realize tat Israel is the only member country which has NEVER had a turn at a seat in the Security Counsil. That should prove to you what the UN intentions are.
