1. Excellent Article!
Jared Rosenberg ,   Toronto, Canada   (11.21.05)
Long live Rome and much thanks to the Mayor of Rome, a man of dignity and man with a moral compass!
2. Bravo Veltroni, Livingstone....
Dan ,   Nashville, TN   (11.21.05)
you are still a horses ass. As for Mayor Veltroni, please count me as one of your fans. Political backbone is so rare to see these days.
3. Its more important to be right than popular
David Landman ,   Natick, USA   (11.21.05)
Thank you Veltroni for doing the right thing. Please continue to do so. As for Livingstone, he will continue to be in the wrong. Appeasing evil is always the wrong thing to do. Didnt the British learn anything? Churchill has turned in his grave.
4. The British Stink of Anti-Semitism big time!
The Rock   (11.21.05)
5. Anti-Israel Bigotry (i.e. criticing a rascist state)
accessol ,   Spelthorne, England   (11.21.05)
The hijackers of the Jewish religion, the Zionist thieves, can't stand criticism. How dare anyone in the outside world speak about human rights and justice when it is not Zionist human rights, and justice for Zionists they are talking about. No one else has any rights, just the mad American Zionists and their parasitic settler slime in the occupied territories..
6. assehole; The only parasite slime are the Arabs!
Daisy ,   USA   (11.21.05)
7. Let's not tar all British people for the idiocy of one man
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (11.21.05)
I'm a huge fan of Italy (and of Italians, Jewish and otherwise!) and I sincerely appreciate the courage shown by the many thousands of Italians who took part in the recent demonstration supporting Israelis' right not to be "wiped off the map." I do see anti-Semitism as a rotten thread running through UK politics. But not every British person is guilty of such behavior. Let us honor those who behave as human beings, and call the OTHERS to account. The UK as a country is not the problem here; certain bigots within the UK are the problem. I hope that Livingstone gets called to account for his anti-Semitism in future elections.
8. England is a racist state, not Israel
David Landman ,   Natick, USA   (11.21.05)
Why did native born English bomb the tube? You dont save Arab Israelis doing that? Face it Accessol, its because Israel is a fair democracy and Europe is just an Arab colony.
9. The two cities are Washington and Beijing
(11.22.05)
Europe is a has been. The US is almost there as well. China is the new superpower.
10. Assehole is an angry Arab
Sheik Yur Bouti ,   Eurabia   (11.22.05)
I know his kind - sad really. Eurabia is now filled with this type of ingrates whose only aim to to destroy their "adopted" homes from within. Thankfully, this type of cancereous elements will soon be on the defensive throughout continental Europe. Even with notorious appeasers like Livingstone, London will get it really good from the same people Livingstone supports. Read Orianna Falacci's books on the subject. One of the most outspoken, fearless, & courageous women since Thatcher.
11. Typical left wing filth
UK Jew ,   UK   (11.22.05)
Didn't know they had Jews in spellthorn. Who are you to criticise the jewish religion? Filthy left wing Jew hating wasp.
12. To #11: He's not a Jew.
Tahl ,   Israel   (11.22.05)
Just a pretender, probably Muslim. A Jew, no matter how left-wing, would not utter such scolding anti-Jewish criticism like he did, on an article which dealt with the arrest of a Holocaust denier in Austria, and relate it to the "denying of Palestinian human rights" by Israel.
13. #11/#12
(11.22.05)
right
14. Tipical
Amima ,   Mnachester   (11.22.05)
Livingstone is acting like a typical diaspora jew...kisses Muslim arse while being mocked by them - Do not ask Israel's help when they come after you. Veltroni - Bravo, kive long and prosper.
15. Who's a thief??
Joan ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.22.05)
The writer of Talkback #5 is such a fool! Ken Livingstone would be proud. Winston Churchill must indeed be turning over in his grave. Mr. Veltroni, the Roman mayor, is obviously a man of great integrity. We need more politicians in the world like him.
16. anti-bigotry, not anti-England
Joan ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.22.05)
Howard is right here. There is a very disturbing thread of anti-Semitism running through British politics. *That* is the problem. Let's not be too quick to accuse all British people, though.
17. beautifully written article Mr. Lappin!
Fire ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.05)
well written! Bravo Roma and Italia... us Jews have long memories - we will always remember and reward your true support and understanding of the anti-semitic threat. p.s. how can London so easily forget the July 7th tube bombings? are they not convinced enough that it was Islamic terror??? what are they trying to do... befriend their killers? London be aware - as you have experienced along with NY, Madrid and others - Islamic Terror is not only aimed at Jerusalem. stop it now.
18. tale of two mayors
Hilda ,   US   (11.22.05)
Livingston just proved what we've always known---that the British are probably as antisemitic a people as any there are. That they surely did not fight Nazis to save the Jews--We know they knew about the camps and could have bombed the trains , thus saving the Hungarian Jews. We also know hoe they made the white papers and kept Jews out of Israel. Soje of us remember the camps on Cypress where they transported Jews they caught trying to get into Palestine after the war. And finally many of us remember how they handed over their arsenal of arms to the Arabs when they finally left Palestinine. I have no love for the English.
19. Viva Veltrano
Hilda ,   US   (11.22.05)
Veltrano has shown courae and should be praised I didn't know that Livingstone is a self hating Jew.. It makes sense however, since many of our worst enemies are Jews who are running away from themselves and in their endevour to do so, they want to destroy Jews, in order to endear himself to the Jew baters and haters.
20. Ken Livingstone
jonathan ,   england   (11.22.05)
Red Ken, to give him his nom de guerre, is looking to gain the muslim vote because he knows that he'll need it in the next Londonistan mayoral election. Just so your readers know what a creep this guy is he has alienated gays as well by supporting this scumbag, a community he's identified with since the early 80's, because he obviously calculates there are more potential muslim than gay voters. I feel sorry for gay muslims who now won't know which way to turn.
21. To Jonathon
UK Jew ,   UK   (11.22.05)
You are spot on. Amongst many other undesirable things, he is an opportunist. I don't know if you have noticed, that all minorities here in the UK are suffering as a result of the positive discrimination the Muslims receive?
22. Accessol
Jane ,   New York   (11.23.05)
Wallow in the slime that is you. Anti-Zionism is Anti-Semitism, you racist pig. Don't attempt to cover over the reality of your real hate.
23. livingstone = e. coli
someone ,   somewhere   (11.23.05)
they are both oppertunistic infections and they both can cause illness.
24. Rome v London
H.L. Tobin ,   Barnet UK   (11.25.05)
Once again Livingstone shows his true colours. Thank you Mr Veltroni To Livingstone I expect no better. Whilst he is in power we will have more of the same anti Israel bias. I once again urge all London DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS MAN AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
25. The genius of Red Ken and Spelthorne
richard Hitchings ,   methil   (12.07.05)
The mayor of Rome Veltroni has his views , and indeed they are excellent, full of good judgement, as he see the situation, and I will say that I would defend with my life, this mans rights to view world events as he sees them... Just as I would defend Ken Livingstons. I have know of Ken Livingston for just about all my adult life,... He was indeed always know as Red Ken even when I had the dubvious pleasure of living in London during the late sixties early ...... early seventies when that great city was know as "Swinging London". Unfortuneatley I am not aquantited with Signor Veltroni so know very little about him other than what is reveal by this very article. the majority of comments here do not seem to like Red Kens stance on the formation of Zionist state of Isreal, perhaps this is understandable as this is an Israeli channel. But Red Ken was elected by the people for the people.... and if he made an error of judgement,.... perhaps it was a lapse of concentration of a senior politician..... or perhaps he ment as he said.
