1. The only thing sick about this story
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (11.26.05)
Is that this non-Jew seems to be married to a Jewish woman.
2. Have same problems
Malik Salhani ,   New York   (11.26.05)
My wife refuses to buy our son anything that has small parts or projectiles. Yet, TV is full of commercials about video games that are violent. I think we should teach our children to make the right choices, instead of making the choices for them. Maybe not a BB Gun, but the battleship that fires a missile. Sure. Why not? Malik Salhani

Avital ,   Los Angeles   (11.26.05)
If Roy Hanania has won an award for his writing, criteria must have deteriorated precipitously. He could benefit from a class in English grammar.
6. Gil #1 take a chillpill

7. Maybe we can get the carebears reinstated?
(11.26.05)
We can have carebear suicide bombers for palestinian kids and we can have carebear on a merkava or a golani carebear for israeli kids and palestinian kids living outside gaza/westbank can get a whole cake with the whole of Israel and gaza/westbank map on top (because they want the whole thing after all, thats why Abas always praises the martyrs who blow up people in buses and cafes) Baahumbug
8. Your story says it all, Ray
(11.27.05)
We Jews generally go for cute and educational, you go for battleship Bismarck and a gun with a scope. Hey, it's your argument , not mine. You titled it. Can there be peace? I think, only when you put your toy and other guns down and pick up the "cute." The alternative is for us to pick up the guns, and when we do, the entire world becomes unhinged with a shock and starts screaming for us put our guns down, since they fervently believe that the Jews must submit to the will and hostility of others. Of cause, you could have made the entire argument from the male vs. female perspective and the entire argument could've become apolitical and very true at the same time ( I cannot see any woman picking crossbow for her child, as a gift.) Your choice. Happy Holidays (both) to your entire family.

11. Eve, are your children Jewish or Muslim?
AK   (11.27.05)

AK   (11.27.05)
When you seven years old, you wanted Koran, as the best possible gift, and I wanted a puppy and a new doll who said "mama" and could close and open her eyes, hence the difficulty for us to communicate -- different values and priorities. Most 7-years olds I have met want bikes, action figures, dolls; all of them want a cute puppy (real), some want kittens (also real,) but puppies win hands down.
13. Explanation
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (11.27.05)
I'm sorry i know that my view on this matter is offensive to people but I feel strongly that the Jewish nation needs to survive intact by marrying together. How do I know this? I myself am the product of a mixed marriage. My mum converted to reform Judaism my dad was Orthodox and now reform. Do you realise the hell that I have been through? Obviously not. Kids from such mixed pairings struggle with their identity and often lose it altogether after despairing about which side they belong to. And it is not straight forward, even when the mother is the Jewish partner. Especially the famillies of either side may pay lip service but in reality their true feelings are more than clear to the half Jewish / half whatever kid involved. My own journey has resulted in aliyah to Israel where I will marry a Jewish Israeli girl and have a Jewish family with kids that don't have a complex. I expect that no-one will understand this. You all come from a good and enlightened place but simply I and many people of mixed marriages know different.

18. EVE / GIL
dacon9   (11.28.05)
Yeve, ES YOU ARE SICK,,YOU DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RACE AND RELIGION..YOU ARE ANOTHER WASTED SEED. GIL THE ONLY THINK SICK ABOUT THIS STORY IS THAT IT SEEMS A JEW IS MARRIED TO A NON JEW... OHH DID YOU SAY THAT ALREADY. GIL NOW IN REALITY THERE IS NOT SUCH THING AS REFORM OR CONSERVATIVE..YOU KNOW THAT AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT... THERE ARE OBSERVERS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS. THE PROBLELM IS THAT THE CULT CALLED REFORM AND CONSERVATIVE HAS THEIR PLATEAU OF KNOWLEDGE..THEY REACED IT AT AGE 13.. TORAH JEWS TRY , THEN FALL. THEN TRY AGAIN to go higher, AND LEARN FROM AUTHENTIC HEBREW WRITINGS.., NOT ALTERED AND ADULTERATED GARBAGE. YOU GIL ARE AT A VERY IMPORTANT PLACE. TEach your children torah or ...well ....i will not verbalize the rest ...... Gil when is child is converted, when they reach age 13 they must stand before a bet din and pledge to suppoort torah or go on their way.... do you want your chjildren to face that same situation? or give them the true baiscs of torah . look at yourself..you choose the path on the left...arent you missing something?

20. Does anyone have a sense of humor?
Ray Hanania ,   Chicago, IS USA   (11.29.05)
Hi people. Don't any of you out there who are driven by hardline political views need to turn on your sense of humor? Come on folks. Why so much hatred? Anger? It's not becoming of Israelis or Palestinians, Jews or Arabs. Why not at least try to see the soft side of life. Maybe you will all become better people. Many of you who write need to do something. :) You know, more people are murdered in Chicago in one year than throughout the entire State fo Israel and the Palestinian territories. You should be at least grateful for that. And Chicago isn't even the worst city any more. Of course, anger needs a ventilation. You have to be able to vent. So, if I am your plumber that allows you to vent, so be it. Maybe that will also help make you all better people. Many of you need it! An early Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas! Thanks Ray Hanania
21. Does anyone have a sense of humor?
Peretz ,   Portland, USA   (11.29.05)
Love your column - As someone whose Jewish name was taken from IL Peretz, the great Yiddish writer and humorist, I'd say that lack of a sense humor is the one sure sign of fanaticsm. Keep up the good work.
22. Sure we do RAY!!
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (11.30.05)
But you don't! Hell son how many people does it take to tell you this ? Every time Y Net posts some of your stuff the masses come out and spray paint it on the inside of your eye lids!! Dut then you may not be able to read it being blid to the truth , facts, history etc,,,, oh well maybe "Hanukkah Harry" will bring you a true sence of humor this year and exchange it for the one you thought you owned!
23. #20 -Ray - as the British say:

Well, they used it a title of a cute soft porn movie a couple of decades ago.
26. GOOD GRIEF get a grip Gil
Little Missy ,   Wales   (12.16.05)
Gil, have you ever picked up a bible? Do you know the founder of the Jewish nation had a non-Jewish wife. That was Abraham, incidentally, and one of his two wifes was Egyptian. And what about Ruth the Moabitess? Or Caleb? Or the mixed multitude who came out of Egypt? I'm sorry to hear of your pain of growing up in a 'mixed' household, but you're an adult now and you have to take responsibility for the things you write on a forum like this. Of course marriage is easier when it's founded on a strong base of shared beliefs and values - but whether your ancestry matches or not... does that really really matter? Maybe you'll have to DNA test your wife, just to check she really is Jewish. In my experience, people like you end up eating their words. Israeli women are some of the most beautiful women in the world, but simply because of your untempered idealism I'm betting you'll probably marry a beautiful Gentile. . . All the best!
