Mikki, There is no racial division between askenasi and sephardi!!! The differences that exist are best cultural and are greatly exagerated by people in to close proximity so only see the differences. If you understood the demographics of Israel we are now into the 4th and fifth generation. I am 3rd generation and these labels are meaningless to me, and even more so to my peers children. The exile is over and so must be these kind of anachronisms. Although usual for a person to marry in the 1rst generation from within the same community, less likely in the second.... Only a minority can claim to come from a family that to this day only marries from within the same community their Grandparents returned from. Israel is far more divided by the same things you can see any where else, class, education, rural urban, immigrant, native etc. However if you are going to make these kind of generalizations, Labour is the party of favour for the Ashkenazim as it is true with all other left parties. The Sephardic and Mizrachi communities generally support the Likud and other centre right parties. The reason is that ironically it is the left which has historically maintained the priveledge of Askenasim. And the likud which was in no small way created to counter the then status quo. This is an extreme generalization though!! All the major parties to some degree are representation of diverse interests. Otherwise they are by definition going to be a very small party.
