1. Nice...
Adam ,   Washington, DC   (12.02.05)
Matisyahu is great. Good to see him getting some press overseas.
2. Matisyahu not "Yiddish form"
David ,   New York   (12.02.05)
It's the Ashkenazi pronunciation, not Yiddish. Unfortunately, most Jews these days seem to think that the way to go is Israeli-style pronunciation for everything. How sad it is that our culture has been homogenized and diluted into the Jewish version of McDonalds.
3. Matisyahu
moishe ,   brooklyn   (12.02.05)
Matisyahu is not just from Crown Heights brooklyn but he is a chabadnik all the way
4. to #2
Dan ,   California   (12.02.05)
Hey, like it or not, the Israel has caused the Ashkenazi, the Sephardi, the Mizrahi, the Gruzim, the Italki, Benei Israelim, Beta Israelim, and so on, and so on to mash in together to create the new "Israeli" culture. In 200 years, there won't be Ashkenazi or Sephardi, there will just be Jewish and Israeli. The way it should always have been.
5. Matisyahu and #4
Zoharah ,   USA   (12.03.05)
Matisyahu in concert is fantastic....! And, he is just not for the Orthodox set alone, his music can be enjoyed by everyone...very electric! And, to Dan of California #4...hopefully it will take much less than 200 years to no longer make the distinction between Ashkenazim and Sephardim, Mizrachi, Ethiopian, Tribe of B'nei Menashe in India, etc. etc. etc....a Jew is a Jew is a Jew and we should no longer have "Jewish ethnic" lines of separation...in addition; the description "Israeli" should evidently come to mean all Jews; therefore meaning we would no longer be a "galut" in any land, and that we all have found our way back home to HaEretz HaKodesh.
6. Listen
Sabra ,   NY   (12.04.05)

YOU REALLY BROKE IT DOWN MORE THAN WE JEWS NEED. YOU BROUGHT IT TO A MICRO DIVISION. I NEEDED MY READING GLASSES FOR THAT QUESTION DAVID. ARE YOU DAVID OR DOVID? ITS NICE THAT YOU ARE PROUD TO BE YIDDISH. I AM SEPHARDIC SO I DONT KNOW MUCH. BUT I KNOW THIS LITTLE. ARE YOU YIDDISH FROM GERMANY OR POLAND OR LITHUANIA ? WHERE IS YOUR YIDDISH FROM? WHEN DID IT START ? DID IT START AS MANY THINK FROM GERMANY OR WAS IT BRIGHTON BEACH BROOKLYN ? WHAT YIDDISH DID MOSHE RABBEINU SPEAK WHAT YIDDISH DID ABRAHAM AVEINU SPEAK WHAT YIDDISH DID NOACH SPEAK. A BIT OF TRIVIA.. ITS 'AMEN' WHICH IS AN ACRONYM FOR SOME SPECIAL WORDS. OMEIN IS INCORRECT. WHAT DID OUR FATHRS YIZHAQ AND YAAQOB SAY WHEN THEY WERE BLESSED? AMEN OR OMEIN I ALWAYS LOVE TO END MY COMMENTS WITH A LITTLE SPARK OF SARCASM, SORRY, I COULDNT HELP IT. HAHAHAHA. SHEVUA TOV.
8. I REALLY WANTED TO CLOSE WITH...
DACON9   (12.04.05)
A ZTADDIQ IS A ZTADDIQ I RUN TO ANY ZTADDIQ FOR HIS BLESSINGS ASHKANAZ OR SEPHARDI A SHIUR IS A SHIUR I RUN TO MANY ASHKANAZ RABBIS TO HEAR. THE QUESTION TODAY IS...... ................................................... >ARE THEY A TORAH JEW OR NOT< THIS SHOULD BE OUR MAIN CONCERN. I WOULDNT ''THINK''' OF ASHKANAZ OR SEPHARD WITH TODAYS CONDITIONS.. >>>> A TORAH JEW OR NOT.<<<<
9. Love Matisyahu he da man!
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (12.05.05)
On the other hand, whoever introduced DACON9 to a computer has a lot to answer for!!
10. To #6
Micha ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.06.05)
Thanks for that sample of Matisyahu's music. It's the first time that I've heard him and I just loved it.
11. I don't get it
JK ,   DC area, USA   (12.07.05)
I'm sorry, I don't get it. He puts on a Jamaican accent. It's a gimmick. The words are great - but the message seems fake to me because he is adapting a foreign vehicle. The music world will grow tired of his act and then what? Maybe he can sing about Mashiach to an American Indian beat, and then to hip-hop, and then to..... Wouldn't being who you are be a truer way of bringing Mashiach faster? So what, a person can't change themselves, adapt themselves to be something else? Ofcourse they can, but this just seems like marketing to me.
12. for a reggae singer he looks weird, but nice b-boxing ;-)
Yakir   (12.07.05)
13. Love Matisyahu!
Keren ,   Brentwood CA , USA   (12.08.05)
It doesn't matter if you are Ashkenaz or Sepharad... I'm an Ashkenazi who is married to a Sepharad! What does that make my kids....???? JEWISH!!! And by the way I'm a 50 y.o. wife/mom/Orthodox Jew... and I love Matisyahu's music... how about that?!?
14. definition of Jewish form
Ra'anan ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.05)
Why is Ashkenazi form NOT a "dliution? Why is Yiddish, with its Middle German & Middle Romanian roots, ALSO not a European version of "authentic" Jewishness? Why is reggae w/Jewish content like McDonalds? Does McDonalds have Jewish content???
15. HEY, I WAS GONNA SAY THAT!
Ra'anan ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.05)
Jewish music is basically from the temple and ancient Babylon "stole" that music & made it "their" royal music. Arabic music is basically straight from the temple. I also read that the dreaded roman catholic "music" was also similarily stolen. Who is to say that reggae wasn't also on the list. And even if it wasn't, Jewish content ELEVATES IT!
16. I think I get it
Ra'anan ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.05)
Think of the first exiles from 2,000 yrs ago who dropped their ancient Israeli accents for YIDDISH ACCENTS!!! Is that FOREIGN??? What ISN"T "FOREIGN" in Judaism today? MEN WEARING PANTS (is that even HALAKHICALLY ALLOWED???)? Are round fur hats not "foreign?" Is the vehicle of the internet not "foreign?" Is there any ISUR in being "FOREIGN?" Is Mendy Jerufi fake because he sings in Ashkenazis instead of Temonith? Are YOU foreign because you aren't writing this in the holy tongue? If the world didn't grow tired of Bob Marley, then why should they grow tired of Matisiyahu??? And why do you think that reggae is NOT Matisiyahu? Do you think that singing "ya didiya" is really him??? Why are Romanian folk songs adopted by Ashkenazim somehow NOT foreign? And you know what, let's say that he IS MARKETING, isn't that what Avraham Avinu et al did? Aren't we on the planet to market You-Know-Who? If so, then you should be grinning from ear-to-ear because he's reaching people that no one else EVER did! BESIDES, if no posqim have come out against him, then surely no one else should, right???
17. back to JK #11
Jeremiah ,   Omaha, US   (12.09.05)
This track fetures a Jamaican, it's not Matisyahu so much on this, you can only hear him in the back. Ive seen him in concert, and Im not Jewish, but I love hearing him chant in Hebrew. Try to look up some of his other music, youll like it.
