The mainstream of Jewish Ameica still believes that the left is the friend of Jews. Consequently, Jews takes positions that tend to be liberal. For example, most Jewish Americans support Choice, social programs, and to a lesser degree, affirmative action. I wonder who Jewish Americans would choose if the choice were between a candidate hostile to Israel and pro-choice vs. a pro-life candidate who is staunchly pro-Israel. Obviously, Foxman who is a product of the time when right-wing fascists were the virulent proponents of Jewish genocide has never awaken to the fact that it is the left that hates Israel and that some of Israel's staunchist supporters are Evangelical Christians and many of them support Israel for positive reasons. I'd like for Mr. Foxman to tell me which mainstream Christian denominations or liberal denominations support Israel in terms of political activism, financial support, tourism etc.

The only reason these evangelical Xians--who are, incidentally, some of the most bigoted and intolerant people in the world--"support us" is their hatred of Muslims. The Christian evangelicals may or may not have some insidious plot motivating their support for Israel. I'll let this debate take its course for the moment. What troubles me is that people still consider Abe Foxman's opinion worth something. Let's recap just a couple of his previous crusades: During the Oslo period, Mr. Foxman tried to get the Zionist Organization of America kicked out of the Conference of American Presidents because they took a stand against the Oslo Accords, saying that they were not in Israel's best interest. The Oslo Accords were subsequently an utter failure and caused the deaths of thousands of innocent people. Dishonest Abe was dead wrong. Abe Foxman busies himself more with combating what he considers the right-wing enemy than actually fighting actual anti-Semitism and defamation like his organization was set up to do. Foxman came out in support of the terrorist Arafat, yimach shemo vezichro, and in support of the expulsion of Jews from Gaza. He went so far as to label anti-withdrawal protesters "anti-democratic" because they disagreed with a "democratically elected" leader. Clearly this is a ridiculous standpoint. As an atheist, I certainly don't want anybody's religion shoved down my throat, but it's not the Evangelicals who are calling for disinvestment from Israel, holding meetings with members of Hezbollah or sponsoring so-called peace activists who are nothing more than apologists for Palestinian terror. If the Evangelicals want to use their considerable political influence to support Israel, then fine. As far as first comings, second comings or any of that other nonsense, I think the majority of Israelis don't give a damn.
