1. Some facts about about Norway and the Holocaust
Kate ,   London   (12.28.05)
1) Norway might have been an occupied nation but there was massive collaboration by the Norwegians in the Holocaust. As in so many other countries in Europe, even when Norwegians hated the Nazis, they hated the Jews even more and collaborated accordingly. 2) For the most part Jews were betrayed by Norwegian neighbours and rounded up by an extremely co-operative Norwegian police force. 3) Not one single Norwegian was ever tried by Norway for his or her part in the Holocaust (Quisling was executed, but not for his crimes against Jews). Even the most senior Nazi official responsible for Jewish deaths was given a derisory sentence and then returned to Germany where he lived a long and prosperous life. Many members of the police force who had collaborated were actually given promotions and the very few who had refused to persecute Jews were ostracised by their fellow-policemen. 4) All Jewish property was seized by the Norwegian state and individual Norwegians. Most of this property was never returned for decades and a great deal still remains in the hands of gentile Norwegians. Norway even refused to return property to family members who had survived on the mad basis that they wouldn't have received the property had it not been for the Holocaust (this occurred even though, incredibly, Norway asked for and received reparations from Germany for Jews murdered in the Holocaust). 5) Half the Jewish population was saved with much help of the Norwegian resistance. However, contrary to myth, the latter were few in number and had little support, especially in the matter of saving Jews.
2. How can we make such an preposterous allegation?
Tahl ,   Israel   (12.28.05)
I mean, surely the much, much worse Iran and Syria are included in this Nowegian boycott. Who in his right mind would judge the Jewish state with double-standards? Surely not the Norwegians. After all, the Norwegians are wise, justice-seeking, moralistic, impartial people, who cannot possibly pick only on Israel, while at the same time turning a blind eye to rogue Arab regimes. Right?... So this can't possibly be antisemetism. It can't be... I'm sure Syria and Iran are banned too... Of course they are.
3. Exactly what we needed
(12.28.05)
G-d bless everyone at the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. I know that Simon can rest peacefully knowing that the fight he devoted his whole life to will continue until it is won! To the leaders of Sor-Trondelag: Shame on you for your hatred, racism, and neo Nazi behaviour. If you had any honour, you'd rescind this appalling, bigoted boycott, and resign immediately.
4. Knee-Jerk Response
C'est Moi ,   Canada   (12.28.05)
Always cry wolf....holy smokes the whole world is anti-semitic except for the evangelical christians right?
5. Norway change your name!!!

9. #6 Excellent response
MARK ,   USA   (12.28.05)
The bible said they would be hated by all the nations very very clearly. It was Ha-Shem's plan.
10. RIdiculous
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (12.28.05)
Statements such as that the "boycott constitutes a 'continuation of Norway's collaborationist history under its own Nazi leader...'" are nonsensical and do a disservice to an otherwise well-respected organization, which makes many other valid points in this letter. Norway's regional government didn't institute this boycott because it's a bunch of neo-Nazis but, on the contrary, because they are left-wing to such an extent that they have to disparage Israel because Israel is an ally of the US, and because on the whole the Israelis' complexion is somewhat lighter than that of Arabs. It proves that the right-wing doesn't have a monopoly on idiocy.
12. TO #10
MARK ,   USA   (12.28.05)
The EU has brainwashed you. Solution: Aliyah
13. C'est Moi = pole-smoker
Seth ,   USA   (12.28.05)
Norway is filled with liberal pansies as is Europe in general. They're just as bad as extreme rightists, perhaps moreso. Also, to #4, no one likes French Canadians, not even other Canadians, and YES the whole world is mostly anti-semitic as improbable as that may sound up there in Drummondville. Put the sheeps hind legs back in your boots and get to work.
14. get used to it , this is only the bigining
aa ,   london   (12.28.05)
and this has nothing to do with anti whatever , it has to do with the apparthied treatment of the palestinians , the rest of the world will follow , in time ........ kol hakavod norway .............
15. norway
M-18 ,   Tel Aviv   (12.28.05)
On the one hand, its bad to know that there are a group of anti semitic cockroaches called norweigans who want to boycott us. On the other hand, its norway, where is that? i don't really give a ****.
16. Where is Talkback Number 11
(12.28.05)
17. Norway and Norwegians
Paal Olstad ,   Oslo   (12.28.05)
From my previous posts here at Ynet, you who have seen them will know that I support Israel and Zionism. But unfortunately many of you will probably choose to ignore that now that you have a chance to pore out your hatred for Norway and Norwegians. A very local government in Norway has made this boycott. Very disgraceful, and also very unimportant. As compared to the many anti-Semitic statements by politicians all over the world including the Mayor of London and the British Prime Minister’s wife especially. But everybody, including Ynet makes a lot of this. Why? Because it is Norway. I feel like a Jew, we are hated for what we are. Kate of London, an Israel supporter apparently, find this a fine opportunity to pore out her hatred for Norway and Norwegians in general, a general hatred shared by many British I am afraid, by giving a completely false account of Norway’s part during the war. So some Norwegians helped send Jews to Germany. What do you think would have happened if Germany had occupied Britain? And they would have if Hitler had taken Goring’s advice and attacked you sooner. One might even had had death camps in Britain itself. You have long traditions of anti-Semitism. Something we don’t have. Your troops helped Arab terrorists against Israel in 1948, while the Norwegian Trygve Li, the first General Secretary of the UN, and the only one ever in that office to be pro Israel was vital in establishing the Jewish state. Norway exported heavy water to Israel which has been vital for their defence, something I am proud of. Norway is a small nation, but we are independent. We have not joined the EU. With Iceland and Switzerland the only western European countries outside the Union. We are many who support Israel here. Our government is unfortunately not. But what about Sharon and the government of Israel, do you call that pro Israel? Paal Olstad.
18. It is not the norwegian gouverment.
Per ,   Norway   (12.29.05)
The Boycott is made by a lockal comunety, not the norwegian gouverment. Norway do not have a boycott of Israel. Sør-Trøndelag is hillbilly country in the middle of norway. And they do not represent the norwegian gouverment.
19. It's not a Norwegian boycot
per ,   norway   (12.29.05)
Sor-Trondelag is av smal regional parliament , the represent less than 300 000 people in Norway, and this is not Norways politiks says the norwegian MFA. Get the facts right, this is not a boykot. from the norvegian people, but from some leftis in a smal regional parliament.
20. Reply to aa #14
Mike B. ,   Boston, USA   (12.29.05)
How many Jews live in Gaza? How many Jews live in Saudi Arabia? How many Jews live in Iran? How many Jews live in Iraq? How many Jews live in Afganistan? HOW MANY ARABS LIVE IN ISRAEL? Do the math. The Arabs/Muslims are today's true aparthied governments. The facts don't lie. Only Arabs and Muslims do that.
21. Guess who is behind the boycott?
Cynthia ,   USA   (12.29.05)
The Palestinians of course. Specifically, the Grassroots Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign. Check out their website at http://stopthewall.org/worldwideactivism/1061.shtml. The Palestinians can't solve problems on their own so they attach themselves to other groups. They wouldn't support a local boycott because they depend on Israeli products. Norway and other countries must be careful not to be used by these parasitic groups whose purpose is to divide while they accomplish nothing.
22. Many norwegians love and support Israel
Kjersti ,   Norway   (12.29.05)
Soer-Troendelag province is only one of 19 provinces in Norway and the politicians in these provices are choosen democrately to deal with buildings of roads and school and so on. They are not choosen to deal with Norwegian foreign policy, neihter educated to do so. I am very sorry and a bit angry that they did, because they don`t represent us. Foreign policy is not their job. The Norwegian import from Israel is bigger now than ever before and the tourism also. We are happy to have an Israel friendly webportal in Norway called www.miff.no Some pages there are english too. You are welcome to read, write and chat there.
23. cut these guys some slack
jack hunter ,   melbourne australia   (12.29.05)

24. #20 Excellent
Sharon ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.29.05)
I've never seen the big picture so well described. I wonder if we'll read anything more from poor aa after he discovers an anti-Israel boycott means giving up his computer...

28. Thank you to our Norwegian friends
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (12.30.05)
For our Norwegian friends & supporters: Thank you. Specific Holocaust numbers: of 1700 Jews in Norway before the Nazi invasion, Yad Vashem estimates that 900 survived, many due to some assistance from rescuers. In contrast, something like 80,000 Jewish Poles survived, out of 3.4 million. Regardless, Norway of today is not Norway of WW2, you are not Quisling, and even the hypocritical politicians in Sor-Trondelag are not representing the rest of you. You have never aided in genocide, and I am confident that you would not do so, and you are not displaying ignorance and anti-Semitism. All the best.
29. Re #26-27: if you write, please be good ambassadors 4 Israel
Howard ,   Pacific Coast, USA   (12.30.05)
and bear in mind that NEITHER Aftenposten NOR the Norwegian government supported the Sor-Trondelag resolution. An article about the Wiesenthal Center announcement is here: http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/iriks/article1186627.ece
