I know exactly what you mean when you asked the previous poster if he had a brother or sister killed in a night club by terrorists. However my similarity to that is having my 66 year old mother killed in Ramallah at the hands of a 20 year Israeli soldier, just for violating "curfew" and being at the market past 3pm. He hit me and her on the head with the butt of his machine gun. I had a bruise, my mother died of a fractured cranium (skull fracture) 3 hours later. Both Palestinians and Israelis have wronged each other, neither party is more innocent than the other. Losing a parent is terrible. Unfortunately I have personal experience. I am a strong supporter of Israel but that doesn't preclude me from expressing my condolences for the loss of your mother, regret that it happened and (assuming she didn't represent any danger which i trust she didn't) hope that the soldier who did that was punished. Without justifying what was done to your mom (there is no justification), why did you break curfew and go to the market? You were knowingly risking your life. I don't mean to be asking in a harsh way and I know it is obvious that you wouldn't do the same thing again with 20/20 hindsight, but was it a common thing? Did everyone ignore the curfew? Was it a form of protest? A mistake because you didn't realise the hour? I also pray that at some point in the future that the senseless killing stops and we can all live in peace.

We weren't any danger to anybody, we were in the market after 3pm because we had planned a big dinner for later in the day. We needed to get a few more vegetables and everything else in the area would have been closed until the next morning. Usually when curfew sets in, we have about 15-20 minutes to leave the area, but on that day a jeep just pulled up at 3:10pm, knocked over the vegetable stand we were looking at and when I went to tell my mother to hurry up her "bargaining" with the vendor, the soldier told me to leave. I grabbed my mother and as soon as we turned around I was kicked in the stomach and she was hit in the head with the butt of his gun. When I went to help her he hit me in the face with the butt of the gun. Two other soldiers just watched and a bunch of old ladies came and started hitting the soldiers telling them to leave. What happened cannot be undone. My mother died because a 20 year old Israeli soldier didn't know how to respect people. Did I want to kill him and every Israeli after that? Yes I did. But I see that I'm not the only one that's happened to and it happens frequently. I just realized that the soldier was taught that all Arabs are evil. I dont know what an elderly lady and a 41 year old man as myself did to him that made us evil? Regardless, I have kids who I pray will never have to see that happen to them. I just want a future for both Jews and Arabs where neither have to see violence again. Both sides have terrorists. It's been established. Once the security barrier is finished, Israel will set final borders based on where the barrier stands. This was Sharon's vision. I, for one, cannot wait for this day.
