1. why not move to Israel? END

2. 8% annual growth. All Jewish communities should have that!
David Landman ,   Natick, USA   (01.10.06)
If all the worlds Jewish communities grew at that rate we would number 500 million in 50 years and the world would have to take us more seriously. GO Haredim go, fullfill the Mitzvah of having many children. I am certainly plan to have 4.

Ken ,   formerly London, UK   (01.10.06)
Do what all the smart Jews are doing nowadays and move to Israel. After a while, you get tired of being harassed by Muslims on city transport and not being able to walk down certain streets b/c of Muslim gangs. Europe is going to the dogs. The Jews that remain in Benelux, UK, and France are the same types that reamined in NAzi Germany before WWII, not wanting to give up the luxury they had and despite all warning signs, thinking that it's just a "phase."
4. Don't be so sure
Lady Justice ,   City of Peace   (01.11.06)
>>"The Jewish community will stay (in Stamford Hill) forever more," said Cohen.<< According to Jewish sources, the exile WILL come to an end.
5. Aliyah
Daniel ,   New York   (01.11.06)
Yeah Ken, Israel is where all the smart Jews like you are moving. As a side note: Strange you would use the tem "smart" to mean intelligent. The British use that to mean "well-dressed." Could it be that you're not really "formerly London" at all?
6. Emigrate to Israel
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.11.06)
Move next door to "Secular Sabra."
7. holy cows and India
yoisef ,   ex-Milton Keynes   (01.11.06)
Alas, Milton Keynes is famous because its cows are artificial, like the city, made of concrete. So this won't mean the return of Tevye the milkman... But I am interested in the penultimate point: I had no idea there were ever many haredim in India, let alone that they moved to Stamford Hill...

Sure, welfare, ADC and additional perks -- like the Hanukah Gelt for yeshiva (but not other) students is available at taxpayer expense. Till the 10th generation...
9. Buses
UK Ite ,   XLondoner   (01.11.06)
Just thought I'd go off topic and point out that the bus shown in the picture at the top of the article is a recent model Routmaster and: The Routmasters have been in service in London for about 50 years. They had a driver and a ticket collector who helps the infirm get on and off the large open platform entry at the rear of the bus. They have two decks and small turning circle. They were handy because one could hop on and off at traffic lights, etc., and often save a long walk to or from the proper bus stops. To "modernise" London transport the last of the Routmasters were phased out a few weeks ago. They have been replaced by: 1) A double decker bus with automatic doors and driver. The infirm are now at the mercy of other passengers or on their own. And, now one must always walk the extra mile even should the bus stop at traffic lights, etc., right next to any place one is at or wanting to go. 2. A "Bendy Bus" that is like two single deck buses joined end to end. These also have auto-doors and only a driver, and a substantial design fault history of turning into flaming wrecks in the middle of the road. Anyone infirm must again trust to luck when trying to get in or out of them. These bendy buses also have a wide turning circle and take a long time to get around corners and, in the process of doing so, they usually significantly block other trafic in the area. They can carry only 0.9 times as many people as the double deckers but their traffic space footprint is about 2.5 times that of the double decker. But these are all good things because the new buses look very good in diagrams and photos and the change enabled a few people to make a lot of money.
10. #2 David #5 Aliyah
XLondoner ,   UK   (01.11.06)
#2 David: I think you mean that whilst you might start 4 children you will actually be getting someone else to risk their life and sanity having them. #5 Aliyah. "Smart" (Pinprick like sharp pain) has been used since about 1850 in normal language in the UK to also mean of excellent appearance; dress, manners, etc., and excellent mind; speaking and writing. Also to say that objects and events have similar high qualities; a shiny new obvioulsy strong truck, an obviously skilled swift return in tennis. It seems to include the implication that what is observed pleases because of some underlying permanent strength and not just in result of some transient superficial effect of chance. Usage of "smart" such as above would rate in the UK as maybe a little slangish if in general conversation, when one would probably expect more precise descriptive words to be used, but its use would certainly be acceptable, indeed maybe one might even say expected, when an appropriate comment is of an excalamation like nature. The association that the oberver is startled by whatever, as they would be by a pin prick is obvious, but the first who, what, when, where and why of the assciation seem either unknown or lost. Not to be confused with "Smart Alec", (clever for a not nice reason) which I gather is said to be an Amercanism deriving from a very famous and skilled thief called "Alec" who operating in New York, coincidentally about the same time, c1850. That phrase crossed the Atlantic and is also often used in UK English.
11. They are commanded to move to Israel
MARK ,   USA   (01.12.06)
Fellow Jews, the land of Ken Livingstone is not the holy land. The UK needs to be renamed. United Kingdom of Sodom
12. #11 Mark (Rename UK)
XLondoner ,   UK   (01.12.06)
Hi Mark, Can you explain why you think the UK should be renamed the United Kingdom of Sodom? It's because I've lived here for 60 years and can't think of any great similarity between the two places.
13. Milton Kenes....lol
Richard Hitchings ,   methil   (01.23.06)
yup I guess thats a good place for Jews to move to.... I was there once and have had no reason to return....
14. Jewish move to Tattenhoe Park
Julie ,   Milton Keynes   (02.28.07)
I live in Milton Keynes and love it and if the Jewish Community want to move here then I welcome them. I am not Jewish but would be happy to have Jewish Neighbours.....
