Christopher ,   Boston, MASS USA   (01.22.06)
SImply put, Batghouti is seeking an alliance of terorists, all of whose goals include the destruction of the Jewish State. Together with the "Israeli" Arab MKs, the goals have been repeatedly set out. Interesting how the EU and the UN continue to circumvent the obvious and attempt to spin the comments much like the Eurabians spun all of Hitler's comments.
3. We see the US has backed Fatah so this means
Shi ,   Israel   (01.22.06)
they back Hamas as well. The US backed with big bucks Fatah who killed 3 people in my family. And for those of you who think George Bush is a friend of Israel anymore than any past president is full of it up to your ears. I would venture to say George Bush will go down in the annals of history as being the worst friend of Israel. What makes this worse of course is it is post 9-11 and we are supposedly fighting a war on terror. Ha ha, a war against Israel that is!!! From the man who George Bush calls a MAN OF PEACE http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/673322.html Abbas defends decision to allow Hamas to take part in elections http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/673420.html Report: U.S. assisting Fatah in Palestinian elections al-H'aretz
4. My 50 cent Question!
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City   (01.22.06)
Why would Israel allow a "convicted terrorist" leader to go on a live interview with two not so friendly to Israel Arab News outlets? Does anyone know?
5. Abdullah , Kuwait City
Imbar ,   Israel   (01.22.06)
Sadly, Israel is a democracy. Sometimes democratic nations do absurd things. Sometimes democratic nations under lots of 'external' pressure do even more absurd things. Understand? Their are a couple Arab MP's in Israel who stated downright treasonous bullshit and nothing came of it. I have to say in all deference to Israel the moment they threw those two bastards out of Parliament and sent them packing the whole world would have come down on Israel. Having said that in America, convicted killers lose all their rights. Every last one of them. And this is how it should be. In the end no matter how ridiculous democracy appears at some of it's more head scratching moments, Abdullah, democracy rules. It is the best thing there is. For all it's flaws, nothing is better.

Because Israel is a democracy.
7. Abdullah,Kuwait City: Freedom of speech exists in prisons
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (01.23.06)
too......... and to exercise same That is what democracy is all about liberty of information - opinion - political rights - education - even in prison you still have fundamental rights. Only in Theocratic dictatorships are those rights none existant.

Imbar, you live ina fantasy world, that Israel is a democracy is a lie that may be repeated 1,000 times and that will not make it true, democracy towards Jews, you must mean because otherwise the record is pretty clear. That Israel allowed Barghouti being interviewed has absolutely nothing to do with democracy or freedom of speech, it is a last-ditch attempt to try to curb Hamas power and to try to convince the Palestinian electorate to vote for a more malleable Fatah movement, would Israel allow a Hamas leading candidate in prison to be interviewed in a mainstream Arab channel ?? I guess the answer is an obvious NO, and that says it all about the concept of democracy. Instead of democracy I would call it interfering in other people's right to choose whoever they want in their elections, something that really frightens "democratic" Israel who would like to see chosen whoever more easily submits to Israeli demands. Democracy you said ?? Maybe you should look that term up in a dictionary...
10. Joining forces
A. Yehudi ,   Melbourne Australia   (01.23.06)
Why not include Mertez and Kakadima to join forces with Hamas and Fatah, after all they stand for the same thing?

13. Orwellian In Every Respect
Adina Kutnicki ,   NJ   (01.23.06)
Well, well. Now the world knows that the PA Fatah and Hamas are on the same page. Barghouti-the serial murderer- appeals to his supporters that Fatah and hamas will be co-legislators. The fact that the US AND Israel see no difference between the two is an otherwordly experience. Why in heavens name would the US and Israel want to strenghten his image, when Fatah and Hamas are exactly alike in their determination to destroy Israel? Do Israel and the US really think that a mass murderer should be speaking for the PA Arabs??

It's now official: Though the U.S. considers Hamas a terrorist organization, it will take no active steps to prevent Hamas from running in the upcoming Palestinian Authority elections.

kapara   (01.23.06)
I have a better question for you Abdullah. Why to you put quotations around "convicted terrorist" when you speak of marajuana bargutti? And don't say something stupid like one mans terrorist is anothers freedom fighter....this terror ringleader/supporter has innocoent civilian blood on his hands. And you are right, he should be locked up and never seen again.
17. Hamas says to Fatah
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (01.23.06)
"I'll let you kill those Jews, if you let me kill the Jews over there." What a wonderful government the Israeli's will be introduced too. Better buy a bunch of body armor and lots of ammunition for your rifles and semi automatic pistols. You are going to need them!
18. I'm all for a terrorist's right's in Prison
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (01.23.06)

Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (01.23.06)
why don't you look after the UK's dhimmi state situation, where Islam has over run your country. You welcomed Tariq Ramadan to discuss the Muslim problem...... Tony Blair's new advisor. Despite France - US - and Switzerland warning the UK, and having him under surveillance. what a naive lot you are. What democracy is that ......
22. Response to Imbar (post 5)
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City   (01.23.06)
Sorry Imbar but Israel has an agenda in supporting Fatah and it has nothing to do with Israel being a democracy or supporting free speech because the very fact that Israel waited all that time before remembering that it is a democracy who supports a freedom of speech as you are suggesting!
23. Response to Post 6
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City   (01.23.06)
No Israel wants Fatah to lose in a loser-loser attempt to sack Hamas! Sure Israel is a democracy but that is totally irrelevant at the moment!
24. Response to Gabrielle (post 7)
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City   (01.23.06)
If Marwan Barghouti was indeed responsible for killing Israelis then why does he get a right to freedom of speech when other Palestinians jailed in Israel from Hamas or IJ do not share the same luxury? Giving Mr. Marwan the opportunity to go live is a clear message of support from Israel for Fatah and it shows that Marwan conviction is a totally BS for Israeli local consumption. I am shocked to see Israel act in a very dumb and obvious behavior! Shalom

Hizbullah leader warns Lebanese not to cooperate with U.S. Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday warned Lebanese that whoever cooperates with the United States against his organization would "repent" Their mistake. Nasrallah's comments came amid tension between his group and anti-Syrian politicians, some of whom are calling for disarming Hizbullah. (AP)
